Got this at the weekend and gotta say i'm loving it, took it online
though and its not laggy as such, just reaaaalllyy sloooow 70% of the
time, anyone get this issue? and if so is it a known problem?

Well I received PES2008 for the PS3 today and have played a couple of
games and I cannot see any of the slowdown reported elsewhere.  I did
"install" to the HDD, so maybe that is the difference (I didn't try
before installing).

So what are the pros and cons for a person living in the UK to buy a US PS3?
Assuming games remain region free?
