from what version does PS2 support DVD RW/RAM/+- etc. ?

I wanna buy Playstation 2. What are the latest versions, and which one is best?
Whats the difference between them?

Chapter 3, Besaid Island, got the search sphere... found all 4 cyphers, but
some of the numbers are very blurred/obscured... so haven't been able to key
in the cypher key.  Is there a website anywhere which gives visual clues as
to what the blurry/obscured numbers are in 'real ...
