Red Alert 2 - Anyone still play it?30 Apr 2004 20:12 GMT1
I was getting a craving for some Red Alert 2 which I havent played in
about 2.5 years.  Can I still play this online thru the westwood
servers?  Are they still up?  Do people still play it?
I dont want to go thru the motions of installing it if not.
Need Help Finding Game Patch/Review Site30 Apr 2004 18:20 GMT4
I managed to wipe all my gaming bookmarks.
I'm trying to locate a games review/patch site and, of course, I can't
quite remember its name.  The best I can do is offer the following
description:  The screen was black lettering on a white background,

for those who support "abandonware"28 Apr 2004 13:53 GMT62
This is an article pointed out in the "GNU-Friends" newsletter.
Anyone who felt the concept of abandonware was a good one, especially if
(like me) the legality still stopped you, this is an item of interest.

If Atari was smart...RE: Total Annihilation27 Apr 2004 22:55 GMT3
They would reissue Total Annihilation in a new box containing Total
Annihilation, The Core Contingency, and Battle Tactics.  It would
feature a new  install to the latest patch, but cleaned up without the
Boneyards stuff.  They would then sign a deal with Gamespy to help
Looking for cutesy animated real-time strategy games27 Apr 2004 21:37 GMT10
After playing Port Royale, Capitalism 2, Rise of the Nation, Civ, Zoo
Tycoon, and others, I'm now looking for a cutesy type of game where I
could just lay back and build stuff.  Kind of like the Sims, where you
can see people walking around and do stuff, and they build stuff.  I
Port Royale is addicting27 Apr 2004 02:54 GMT29
I've had this game for 3 months now, always put it off but now I've
been playing it for 3 straight days now.  It's pretty addicting.  I've
played Freelance and Privateer but none of them matches the complexity
of this game.  The learning curve for this game is pretty steep.  You
UFO:AM - graphics card problems27 Apr 2004 01:09 GMT2
I'm using a Geforce 2 GTS card under Win2K and am running into horrible
problems with UFO:AM.  It keeps crashing and blue screening at intermittent
intervals.  I upgraded to the latest Nvidia drivers as it recommended, but
still no joy.  Before I take the game back to the shop or ...

This one just snuck up on me -- there's a demo at Fileplanet, too.

What's up with 52 consecutive posts with links to every potential topic of
interest to anyone who has ever thought about gaming? Is this guy a regular
new feature of this newsgroup or a one-time shill for the GDC or his website
or what?
FreeCiv -- how good is the AI?25 Apr 2004 11:11 GMT2
Is anyone playing FreeCiv against the computer? (According to the FAQ it
is possible.) If so, how good is the AI?

Medieval Mod IV for Total War?24 Apr 2004 15:11 GMT1
While googling for solutions to a MTW problem (can't build more than
one military academy as the Turks, which really sucks), I stumbled upon
the readme file for the "Medieval Mod IV for Total War v1.1", by Wes.
Does anyone here know about it? Is it any good? Are there better mods?
Rollercoaster Tycoon III: FINALLY IN 3D24 Apr 2004 13:23 GMT5
Wow, the screenshots of RCT3 look amazing -- finally in 3D, and finally you
can ride your own coasters.

I don't hear much buzz about this game... what's up?
BTW, I got a question if you have the answer... I designed a Japan
scenario (very detailed, lots of scripted events; so its ticking me off)
using the Japan map that comes with the game.  The only problem is it takes
