What do you like and dislike about the current crop of space sim games?
Here's my list:
1 - not enough of the darn things.  Each year there are a dozen or so FPS,
and strategy games, but maybe 1 or 2 space sims.  Some years not at all.

In this game you are a sun and you have to be sunny
for a few billion years, until you will turn into a white
dwarf, a neutron star or a black hole.
This game will keep you hooked for ages.

I was telling a friend about X-com and I was wondering if anyone has
come up with an updated version or at least a similar type game. I
know there were some in the works last year but I haven't heard
anything lately.
