Worth getting before ME2?

What a shame PB had to go and ruin a great game with
the worst ending I have ever seen. I finally finished it, but
it was pure luck, and only after 20 or 30 failures. There is
no skill involved. You simply have to get lucky and jump

Just started playing a Mage in Dragon Age.  They've borrowed heavily
from the Psi Corp in
Babylon 5.  Right down to referring to non-magic uses as 'mundanes.' Not
a criticism, just an observation.

Well, I have tried several characters out, and played most of them to at
least half-way through the game.  The only one to make it all the way to
endgame so far is my "Spirit Healer" Elf Mage.
I suppose the reason my mage got so much attention is because he is tons

... so I started reading unread posts oldest first:
1. Three weeks of Jonah screaming "Dragon Age is coming! Dragon Age is
coming real soon now!".
2. Two weeks of Jonah screaming "Dragon Age sucks! I am Cornholio!"

Ok it took me a while to reach that point but with family and baby it is
hard to play at all.
First I am in the middle of chapter 3 and so far I still like the game
very much, still feels like Gothic2 and despite becoming more linear

I'm one of those guys who buys a decent PC every couple of years and
refuses to buy a separate Xbox or Wii to play games on.
Over the years just about everything I wanted to play came out on in a
PC version, but now I've noticed that's not the case.

I feel stupid.  I cannot find a way to set my melee guys to, you know,
attack the enemies they see.  They will only attack enemies that attack them
within melee range.  In other words, they DO NOT MOVE, EVER on their own
accord.  They will wait for enemies to come into range and ...

In the early part of the game, it's clear that you can play with almost
any combo with success - but what about later?
My first character, a mage, surrounded himself with melee fighters, and
did very well until he started running around under Orzammer.
