Dumbest thing you ever did in a PC game?30 Nov 2004 21:57 GMT25
Ever do something so unintentionally stupid while playing a PC game
that it cost you either the game or many lost hours?  A recent example
for me is the "Water Hazard" level of HL2 where I left my hovercraft
(airboat) back two levels back & attempted to progress on foot,
Any good action platform games for a gamepad? Getting sore wrists after FarCry Doom3 and HL230 Nov 2004 21:07 GMT6
After enjoying FarCry, Doom3 and HalfLife2 I find that I'm
getting a bit sore in my wrists. And as I work all day with mouse
and keyboard too I thought I might buy me a gamepad and play some
platform games for a change.
A Half-Life 2 analogy...30 Nov 2004 19:18 GMT20
Posting something that suggests Half-Life 2/Steam is anything less than
perfect is to Walter Mitty what squeezing the bugbait is to antlions. In
both cases they emit a squealing roar and come rushing directly to you.
Just an observation.
HL2:  Adjust Vid Settings Prob30 Nov 2004 18:18 GMT2
I adjusted my video settings, then did the advanced settings, then hit apply
before noticing that the dimensions were not what I thought I had set.  Long
story short, HL2 defaulted to settings not supported by my monitor and I
can't see the display.
OT: the REAL Wolfenstein which started it all30 Nov 2004 17:40 GMT18
No, I don't mean the one which appeared in the early 90s; I'm talking of the
8 bit days of gaming.  In particular, I played a (cracked, sigh) version of
this game on my trusty ol' Apple ][ e, which had a whopping 128K of memory
(as I had a 64K expansion card).
Iam in love with Alex Vance.30 Nov 2004 17:05 GMT18
When i plya HL@ i can tel Alex is flirting with me. IT has ben a long
time sinse a woman has hit onm e. Are their any cheet codes where i
can have Alex be naked when i play?
HL2 "motion sickness"?30 Nov 2004 16:51 GMT29
I've never had this before in a game, but there is something about playing
HL2 which makes me feel slightly nauseous after a (fairly short) while.
Refresh rates don't seem to be an issue (no flickering), but something
seems to be upsetting me. Yesterday I thought maybe I was just ...
HL2 in 10 years from now30 Nov 2004 15:37 GMT17
For those who want to play HL2 after 5 or 10 years and are worried by
Valve's stability, go and get the Steam emulator today and keep it close to
the HL2, so you can play it after Valve was broke or you reach the late
50's.
Class action against Overwatch pulse-rifle manufacturers30 Nov 2004 14:36 GMT4
There's no wonder the Combine are always dying. Only 60 rounds and about
as accurate as a laser-guided turd from 30,000 feet. Give me a bag of head
crabs any day.
One thing I would really have liked is a more flexible approach to weapons
Of Linearity and Ellipses30 Nov 2004 14:24 GMT8
That is to say, I'd like to say a few words on the level design and the
story of Half-Life 2. Forgive the pompous title, but I'm not one to
pass up a bad mathematical pun when I see one.
I will assume you've played the game to the end, otherwise BEWARE OF
HL2 starting weak?30 Nov 2004 13:39 GMT30
At last I got to play HL2 up to the airboat level and I have to say, that
I'm not really impressed. Granted the levels are a little more open and
brighter than Doom 3 but it still feels completely on rails, especially
with all those fences clearly defining the corridor, even when ...
No One Lives Forever..Still Rules!30 Nov 2004 12:39 GMT41
Finished HL-2 a couple of days ago and thought, on the whole, it was very
enjoyable. It got weaker near the end but it did everything Valve claimed
and more.
Just to clear my head after that game, I re-installed N.O.L.F. (GOTY) and

HL2: how did the Black Mesa staff find itself in Eastern Europe?30 Nov 2004 08:29 GMT20
I watched a friend play through the start of Half-Life 2 and while
there's several confusing elements (LAMAR!) one plot related element
has me confused.  A number of the Black Mesa staff have found
themselves in this seemingly Eastern Europe city while the original
HL1: Source and Blue Shift???30 Nov 2004 02:53 GMT4
OK so I bought in to the Silver package and have HL1:Source.
A bit disappointed with the "improvements" but anyway I've had fun
re-playing much of HL1 concurrently with HL2.
Years ago I bought HL1 and later Blue Shift. I'd like to re-play the Blue
