Upgrade Path: Athlon 64 or Athlon Thoroughbred?31 Aug 2004 22:25 GMT11
What's the most reasonable upgrade path for a PC gamer?  I'm currently
making do with an Athlon XP 1700+.
The Athlon 64 is obviously fast... but is the cost-versus-performance
worth it?  It seems kind of silly to be purchasing a 64-bit processor
Painkiller Ep 5, Level 3, help!!!31 Aug 2004 19:56 GMT9
I'm in the Old Monastery level and have made my way through a good chunk of
it. I just went down a very narrow spiral staircase, killed a bunch of
monsters, etc.... but the door that would seemingly open at the point didn't
open. I seem to be stuck wandering around with nothing ...

Doom 3, I like it31 Aug 2004 19:08 GMT100
Seems I'm in the minority here but I'm enjoying Doom3.  It may be because I
wasn't expecting it to be the second coming.
I like the dark or more accuratly I hate the dark.  It adds a lot of
atmosphere IMO and gives soom genuine frights.  A light on your MG would
(Doom3) Is there a genious in the house?31 Aug 2004 19:02 GMT5
I have this thing against cross hairs in games. I dont like them, boooo and
hisss etc. Well, I was wondering if there was any way to make it invisible?
Does any clever type know the console commands do render it invisible? I
dont know if anyone here has the technical know how. I ...

Quake 2 Mods etc.31 Aug 2004 14:48 GMT8
We are pulling out some old games so we can do some online deathmatching
and coop with family across the states.  Quake 2 and Heretic 2 mainly.
Nice part is the run great on all systems and even with voice chat going
there is no lag.
PC Gamer magazine and their Doom 3 review31 Aug 2004 09:30 GMT13
Now that many of us have had a chance to play some or all of Doom 3, what do
you think of PC Gamer magazine giving it a 94% rating?
Doom 3 - PDA URLs31 Aug 2004 09:30 GMT3
Anyone have a full list of the URLs that are listed in your PDA in
Doom 3?
I know some of them contain codes to different crates in the game, but
it is difficult for me to connect to the internet whenever I come
Two Doom 3 observations (spoilers)31 Aug 2004 09:30 GMT11
1. One of the famous screenshots showed thre spides on a bridge, with a
set of windows high up behind them. Yet we never encounter this
particular position in the game.
2. There's lots of emails about how flukey the robots are. Yet the ones
So what would it have taken to make Doom3 a raving success?31 Aug 2004 09:30 GMT17
To all those disappointed or bitchers and moaners....
The game isn't all bad that's for sure but what  would you tweak to turn
it into a fun, incredible, mega-million, smash hit?
Constructive criticism (potential, subtle spoilers (not really) )31 Aug 2004 09:30 GMT17
Some of these things are probably already listed umpteen times, perhaps even
by me.
Flashlight:
Does it add 'ambience' to the game?  The effect of the light cone is cool
Doom3 - that didn't take long did it?31 Aug 2004 09:30 GMT42
From "Wow - this game is something else!" to repetitive, dated gameplay and
dark graphics complaints in less than a week.
I think I'll finish Far Cry and wait for the mighty Half Life.
DOOM 3 : anyone given up?31 Aug 2004 09:30 GMT42
Since so many people are now knocking the game, I was wondering how many
of you have stopped playing Doom 3 without finishing it? I'd hazard a
guess that more than 50% of people gave up on Far Cry or loaded up god mode.
Anyone out there got so cheesed off with Doom 3 that they've ...
Doom 3 not too bad but I'm finding Tron 2.0 more interesting31 Aug 2004 09:30 GMT30
I think id software did a pretty good job with Doom 3. There are
definitely some shock moments that got me jumping and the graphics are
beautiful, as everybody else has attested. However, I'm finding Tron
2.0, which I happened to start playing at the same time, to be more
