| [Tournament] Multiple Awards for # Ascensions? | 05 Nov 2003 13:31 GMT | 12 |
In the Tournament, why aren't there awards for 2nd and 3rd highest numbers of ascensions? Or for 2nd and 3rd lowest scored ascensions, for that matter? Frankly, those are easily the most impressive categories, as they're much better judges of skill than high scores, so why not ...

| Does this patch exist? (Pets and Peaceful Monsters) | 05 Nov 2003 12:04 GMT | 104 |
I've got an idea for a patch, and I just wanted to see if it's already been done before I start mucking around in the code to implement it myself. A while back, my barbarian (Thvor; I'd started him before posting

| YAFAP - a comedy of errors. | 04 Nov 2003 23:28 GMT | 2 |
Okay - this is both my first post to this group, and my first ascension. I've been playing about 2 and a half months, and have learnt alot about this game quickly, mostly due to the help of #nethack@OPN. Nevertheless, I had a comedy of errors along the way to my first ascension.

| YAAP Forever-Pri-Hum-Mal-Law - conductless | 04 Nov 2003 23:27 GMT | 6 |
Hello Nethackers, The character I asked about earlier finally ascended. Now I just might spend some time messing with Putty and that Finnish Tournament server, but I doubt I'll

| YAAP shaitan (Wiz-Hum-Neu-Mal) (Genoless wannabe extinctionist) | 04 Nov 2003 21:24 GMT | 5 |
At first I intended for shaitan to go extinctionist, but after a couple of experiments killing specific creatures I decided to call it a day, and just ascend the poor chap. Life did not start un eventful for shaitan: I started out with =oSI

| YAAP - solomon-Bar-Hum-Fem-Cha (ill/wish/geno) | 04 Nov 2003 17:21 GMT | 6 |
My first real illiterate ascension after losing illiterate and wishless last month in a stupid Bell of Opening accident. Lost polyitem while IDing potions by dipping. The only remarkable thing about this game was the number of artifacts I

You look at an excel-sheet and think to yourself "There's a lot of food around here". (This one occurs rather frequently to me). Greetings, Renata :)

| (Tournament) bloody BoH | 04 Nov 2003 16:01 GMT | 7 |
Yipes - I may not have been playing Nethack for decennia, but I seem to recall it not being a problem inserting a normal sack in a BoH... My own server doesn't do that, nor any of my friends - and there goes my wonderfully smooth valkyrie game... magic explosion -> #quit.

| (Tournament) .nethackrc editor | 04 Nov 2003 09:17 GMT | 7 |
I just went through all the options offered on the current installation (3.4.2) and activated almost all of them in the editor, so it should do pretty much every option y'all need now. And for the folks who've been getting errors in using it: we've got a

| [patch] New Gehennom Levels (aka Heck^2) | 04 Nov 2003 09:15 GMT | 18 |
The firm of Pater, On, and O'Gorgon is delighted to announce the completion of the Heck^2 project, bringing exciting new levels to the otherwise unused labyrinthine real estate of Gehennom. The imps have called a (foulmouthed) halt to

| new Tournament feature | 04 Nov 2003 05:55 GMT | 10 |
I've decided on this year's new Tournament feature: clans. ;-) Last year, a group a players decided to form what is probably the first NetHack clan (from the Quake gamer name for player groups) and compete in the Tournament as "Clan EIT". They were among the first to register

| YAFAP BeeRockxs (Sam-Hum-Fem-Law) | 04 Nov 2003 03:15 GMT | 3 |
Phew. Finally ascended. I started playing about half a year ago, at first trying Knights, then from time to time Samurais and Valkyries, with the odd Wizard inbetween. Once I got to the plane of Air with a Valkyrie who was thoroughly underprepared.

| YAAP: Diomedes-Tou (!wish,!poly,!geno) | 03 Nov 2003 22:11 GMT | 2 |
Because Diomedes's cousin, the extinctionist wizard, was getting very bored, a number of Diomedeses decided to do some exploring. They had heard the game got a little more interesting if they avoided various things, including wishes, polymorphing, and hitting any monsters until

| [tournament] putty question | 03 Nov 2003 21:41 GMT | 9 |
So normally when I play nethack over Putty, I have to run "TERM=linux nethack", otherwise I can't get color. But this isn't available on the tournament servers. How do you people get color? I couldn't get it to work with Window's telnet, either. (Linux or WinXP solutions appreciated ...
