all, I bought, installed, played and deinstalled HL2. At the time I created a Steam account / password. I used some yahoo account for regististration (for spam collection) .. but I have since deleted that yahoo email account.

I am getting an error message when loading Episode 1 that states "hl2.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close". When I click on details, it states an Error Signature with AppName:hl2.exe and ModName:datacache.dll I am able to play Lost Coast and the full version of HL2, ...

I just bought Half-Life 2 and I'm getting graphical anomalies in-game. The most distant mountains or buildings flash different colors: bright purple, blue, red, etc. It's very distracting. I've tried the following to correct the problem:
