| Civ combat: Fictional foundations | 30 Apr 2006 20:44 GMT | 1 |
Civ is a strategy game, not a tactical combat sim, I'll grant you... however "...force, physical violence, is the ultimate authority from which all other authorities are derived." and if you cant rely on your armed forces then diplomacy and trade is effected. Historically many ...

| civ2 patch? | 29 Apr 2006 23:21 GMT | 11 |
There's little or no traffic in alt.games.civ2 so I'll try here. Today I decided it might be fun to try civ2 again, for old times sake. It installs just fine, but it won't run. I realize I don't meet the sys requirements, as winXP isn't mentioned there.

| Civ IV cultural conversion problem | 28 Apr 2006 10:07 GMT | 1 |
At the end of my most recent game I had taken out a couple of empires and was left with a couple of Incan cities in my lands (we both took out the English, I had never owned the cities.) Out of curiosity I decided to play on and see how long they would

| Help, CIV III irrigation | 28 Apr 2006 04:20 GMT | 5 |
Before I splash out and get Civ IV can someone tell me what it is that lets irrigation work. In the early stages irrigation seems to have no effect on the food from a square. At some point, I've always missed exactly when, the square starts to produce an extra food.

| Last 2 Civ 4 Games (Murder Death Kill) | 28 Apr 2006 01:22 GMT | 14 |
Hm, so I tried out the violent approach. My first game I didn't care whether I won or lost, being a bit on the bitter and despondant side. As usual, all the civs are cramped and Mansa Musa develops his first city just below mine, actually cutting into my SMALL fat cross before it ...

| Terrible lag between turns | 26 Apr 2006 22:46 GMT | 5 |
Hello all. I've run into a problem. I've read through other posts here and on various web forums but I haven't found any place where this issue is addressed with sufficient clarity. So here we go. Bascially as the game progresses the time spent "waiting for other

| Civ4 now looking as good a game as Civ2 | 24 Apr 2006 12:36 GMT | 3 |
I played civ 2 for years but found Civ 3 boring. At first I was very dissapointed with Civ 4 but it grows and grows on you. Being colourblind the terrain and units were too confusing at first but that is becoming less of a problem. The wide varieties of options and decisions

| Free settlers and the difference they make | 24 Apr 2006 12:36 GMT | 5 |
First of all I want to point out I am still only playing on Warlord, I am a newbie afterall... I have noticed the extreme difference one (or two) free settlers from goodie-huts makes when playing against AI opponents at least on lower

| Testing some things (for Broken Spirit v2.0) | 22 Apr 2006 05:42 GMT | 5 |
I decided to test some things out playing the games under the settings you have. I played as Elizabeth on a Terra map. Temperate, medium, standard, noble, normal. Those were all of the settings. I was able to get 5 cities very easily. I put these cities 4 spaces apart

| Civ 4 Problem | 21 Apr 2006 20:56 GMT | 7 |
What´s up? When I try to download Civikization IV I get this message: "set1.tmp has found a problem and has to be shut down". What shall I do? The game is brand new and my son is very upset.

| Civ4 patch & Gunships | 20 Apr 2006 11:22 GMT | 2 |
Just noticed that since the Patch Gunships now use railroads. Looks like they are a useful unit now they can actually bet to the battle!

| Civ 4 - I'm Still A Miserable Failure :-D | 19 Apr 2006 17:06 GMT | 12 |
So... still playing this game every night. Yep. Still losing, too. Been trying for a cultural win with Elizabeth. I play on Noble, on a Huge Terra map with Temperate Terrain and Medium Sea Level. I did very well at the start. I actually managed to get up 5 cities. 2

| More questions about Civ 4 that I can't find in the manual... | 16 Apr 2006 19:29 GMT | 9 |
Okay, these may sound like stupid questions, but honestly I have looked in the manual and the civilopedia, but I can't find the answers... With the Slavery civic you're supposed to be able to sacrifice population for production. My question is: How? I have the civic enabled but I ...
