Are the black borders because GameCube games were not written for 480P??
I suspect that they are being transmitted at a lower resolution and so to make them the full res' Black borders are added to fill the wholes.

When playing Game cube games on my Wii(pal) with the component cables
and using 480p(in the wii settings) I get black borders on the left and
right of the screen even when using a widescreen game, what gives is it
my tv or the wii?

Well you people finally got a Rockstar game.  Too bad they put your system in the PSP and PS2 category!  At least they know where it belongs.  At least the Wii will have some type of hard-core game for once.  We will see how it does.

With all of this talk from Nintendo and their people about HD being useless in videogame systems (the ones that have the power to support it), I find it funny that Wii commercials are demonstrated on HDTV's.  I think that this gives a false representation of the machines ...
