the most difficult level in Halo in my opinion is the T&R
whit out any doubt, the battles to board the ship are
very intense, specially in the part where the gravity
lift is , cos if you dont take the stationary guns you'll
have a hard time fighting the covenant troops, because
the stationary guns won't allow you to use the sniper
rifle, what makes the level more interesting and of
course more difficult.
and i disagree about that the Silent Cartographer is the
easiest, (well you know in my opinion) the very first
time i played Halo was in Costco and i was able to finish
Halo level whit no problem, to me Halo level is the
easiest. here is my list too.

-The Truth and Reconciliation
-Two Betrayals
-Assault on the Control Room
-Keyes
-The Library
-343 Guilty Spark
-The Maw
-The Pillar of Autumn
-The Silent Cartographer
-Halo

I find the hardest part in The Truth and Reconciliation to be the battle
when you first board the ship, not the fight at the gravity lift below. The
Shades are easy to take out with the Sniper Rifle or Fragmentation Grenades.
And even if you don't take out the Shades, there's plenty of cover from them
from which to snipe.

Halo is also pretty easy, but I rank it behind The Silent Cartographer, The
Maw, and The Pillar of Autumn (as you saw) because of the part at the first
base when six Covenant dropships come and drop off loads of enemies that
come up both sides. On Legendary that part is very difficult. Also killing
the first Elite with only an Assault Rifle and a Pistol (no shield-piercing
weapons) is also challenging on Legendary. I usually stay at the crashed
lifeboat and wait for the dropship to come, then plant Frag Grenades beneath
it as the Covenant get out and take a Needler or a Plasma Pistol (generally
needler) instead of the assault rifle you start with. Then the next fight is
much easier, as is the first base, because you already have a needler.

Oddly, it seems that most levels' hardest battles are near the beginning. Do
you agree?

The one part of Halo that is hard is at the first buildings before you get
the Warthog. On Heroic on down it isn't too bad, but on Legendary it can be
a challenge to keep any of your crew alive. Because of that I would bring it
up a couple of notches on the difficulty scale. I agree with the rest for
the most part. T&R is the hardest, Cartographer the easiest.
