I've been playing forza 2 a while and up til recently you could gift
cars to people with silver accounts so I passed extra cars to the kids
and missus only suddenly it has stopped working, and there are cars
still there which won't download. It appears that this is deliberate,
others have complained about it recently, and one person said they got
it work work by applying a 48 hour gold to the silver account, then he
could download the cars. It still works perfectly between gold
accounts.

Obviously if it is expensive then it isn't worth doing but the damned
notice that there are cars to download keeps popping up on those
accounts and it's annoying.

I don't know about anywhere else, but you can pick them up on EBay

http://shop.ebay.co.uk/items/?_nkw=48+hour+xbox+gold&_fromfsb=&_trksid=m270

I think they are often given away with some game purchases

Thanks Nicola. I'm always wary of ebay. Do you know if they just email
the codes?

thanks Chris, with yours and one my son dug up I have managed to
release a number of stuck vehicles. It is annoying that nobody said
this was going to happen and still nobody is actually confirming that
there's a permanent block on gifting to silver accounts.

EBay have banned digital purchases (due to EU law or something), so you get
a physical item posted to you now

ah, not good fun. I like having them immediately, though admittedly
when I do this on Play.com by the time Play have sorted it all out I
could have visited the person's house and written down a code :O)

yeah, they banned you from selling digital purchases, or rather
advertising them.

there's nothing they can do to actually stop a person from emailing
the code, though.

Not yet anyway! I'm sure the f.ckers will try and think of a way.
