Maybe it's just Google Groups, but when I replied to the Pokemon naming
discussion thread earlier this week I notice that it hadn't moved to
the front page despite my post showing up. That's why I'm reposting
the list as a seperate thread. I also want there to be discussion on
it. So here it is. Some are good, some are bad, and some are really
bad.
To compile this list, I went to serebii.net to use their Diamond and
Pearl PokeDex. I managed to rename most of the Pokemon, even the
Legendaries, but some I couldn't and they're not on the list.
This list is by no means official and is mainly for discussion and
entertainment use. Of course, if any official Pokemon localizers are
reading this, who knows. I would at least like a thank you.
Naetoru - My first inclination is "Naturtle," as there have been more
turtle pokemon than turtle names already. Seeing it's evolutions,
though, I'd have to name it... eh... Ankylbyta
Hayashigame - Ankylbyta's first evolution. Shall henceforth be called
"Ankylchompa"
Dotaitos - Ankylbyta's final evolution. I will call him...
"Ankylobord," as in "Shmorgishbord," or however its spelled.
Hikozaru - "Sparkanzee," from "Spark" and "Chimpanzee."
Moukazaru - "Flairkanzee," from "flare."
Goukazaru - "Inferkanzee," from "inferno."
Pochama - "Penquire," from "Penguin" and "Squire."
Pottaishi - "Penight," from "Knight"
Penperuto - "Penperor," from "Emperor." Clearly, what the Japanese had
in mind, as well.
Mukkuru - "Quiquail," from "Quequay" (the character from Moby Dick, I
think), and "Quail."
Mukkubird - "Aquail," from "Ahab" (from the same book)
Mukkuhawk - "Moquail," from "Moby Dick."
Bippa - "Beeva," as in "Beaver."
Biidaru - "Cleava," as in "Cleaver."

Rukushio - "Electrikat," from "Electric"
Rentoraa - "Enercat," from "Energize."
Subomi - "Rosbud," as in "Rosebud."

"Rose Red."

Tatetopusu - "Haltypus," from "Halt" and "Platypus."

Pachirisu - "Squircuit," from "Squirrel" and "Circuit."
Karanakushi - "Coastropod", from "Coast" and "Gastropod."
Toritoidon - "Coastropodus."
Etebossu - "Tupalm." Evolution of Aipalm.
Fuwante - "Flotom," from "Float" and "Phantom."
Fuwaraido - "Flotasm," from "Phantasm."
Mimimoru - "Klutzbit," from "Klutz" and "rabbit."
Mimiroppu - "Klutzare," from "hare."
Muumajii - "Mischevus," from "Mischevious." Evolution of Misdrevus
Donkarasu - "Donkrow." Evolution of Murkrow. I wanted to call it a
"Pimpcrow" 'cause it looks like a pimp to me, but I doubt it'd fly. No
pun intended.
Nyaruma - "Coiline," from "Coil" and "Feline."
Bunyatto - "Coilaste," from "Coil" and "Baste," an Egyptian cat
goddess. Doesn't sound too much like "Coil-assed," does it?
Riishan - "Teenco." From "tinkle" or "teeny." Prevolution of Chimeco
Sukapuu - "Skunpew," from "Skunk" and "Pew."
Sukatanku - "Skunink," from "Stink." Also, "Skuntank" and "Stintank,"
both from "Tank."
Doomira - "Medaly," from "Medal" and, for no reason, "Melody."
Dootakun - "Medagong," from "Gong."
Pinpuku - "Pinty," from "Pink" and "Bitty." Prevolution of Chansey.
Perap - "Pearat," as in "Parrot."

meaning "Foot."

Hippopotsu - "Hippolicon," from "Hippopotimus" and "Silicon."
Kabarudon - "Hippopoemoth," from "Behemoth."
Gregguru - "Cusrog," from "Cuss" and "Frog." It is classified as a
"Cursing Pokemon."

Keikouo - "Flipish," from "flip" and "fish."
Neorantu - "Glowish," from "glow."

Yukikiburi - "Nayeti," from "Not yet" and "yeti"
Yukinooh - "Rediyeti," from "Ready."
Jibacoil - "Magnecore," from "Core," or "Magnegeddon," from
"Armageddon," or "Magnenaught," from "Dreadnaught" or "Astronaught."
Evolution of Magneton. BBBers will agree that the second name fits.
Beruberuto - "Lickiball," from "ball." Evolution of Lickitung.
Dosaidon - "Rhyett," as in "Riot." Evolution Rhydon.
Mojanbo - "Trogela," from "Troglodite." Evolution of Tangela.
Elekible - "Electrabul," from "rubble." Evolution of Electabuz.
Buuburn - "Magmeyser," from "Geyser." Evolution of Magmar.
Leafia - Either "Leafeon" or "Floreon." "Leafeon" sounds and looks
less like "Flareon."
Glacia - "Iceon" or "Glaceon."
Manmuu - "Heaposwine." What's another word for "Pile"? Evolves from
Piloswine
PorygonZ - "Porygon3," just to stick to the current nomenclature,
though its current one is cooler.
Erureido - "Gardeuvo." Just let me say that I think this one looks
totally cool. I saw this dude and said, "Whoa." Anyway, since
Gardevoir ends like "Noir," I figure the male version would end in what
I think is the opposite of Noir, or "Neuvo."
Dainoosu - "Nosego," 'cause I think it looks like it's made of Legos.
Yonowaaru - "Duscitan," from "Titan." Evolves from Dusclops.
Yukimenoko - "Glala." Female version of Glalie
Rotomu - "Teslon," from Nikolai Tesla, the inventor of the Tesla Coil,
among other things. Or we could call it "Roton," after a fake Pokemon
I heard of once.

Emuritto - "Emoto," from "Emotion."
Agunomuu - "Volito," from "Volition."

Parukia - "Univearl," from "Universe" and "Pearl."

wanted to point out there's a Regigigas.
Giradina - "Anarkaos," from "Anarchy" and "Chaos."

not a Dragon-type.

"Incubus."

Ever.

Does not matter what WE want to name them, the translation corp will make it
a point to prove you wrong <grin>
