Umm, what about tooting our own horns, patting ourselves on the back,
etc.
Why should we only be able to pound our chests?

If you want to discuss how videogame systems are going to do, and
which one will end up winning this generation, how games do matter.
People do care about it, or it wouldn't be discussed on here.

Oh give me a break.
You of all people (hypocrite) are the last person that should be determining
what people on here discuss with all your nonsense calling out blig and
every other "Sony troll/fanboy". People don't "discuss" anything on usenet.
There are hardly "any" threads that don't turn into mine is better than
yours. Nothing but a bunch of insecure nitwit babies talking about sh.t that
barely one of them know a flipping thing about. Geez now you are starting to
sound like that a.shole Michael Pachter with his crystal ball pretending to
be an analyst. It doesn't matter what Sony does or doesn't do you will find
fault with them.

I have sung the praise of Ratchet and Clank and even Uncharted more
so. Give me a break. Tell me the last 360 game you posted a specific
praise about being great. And tell me the last harsh post you have
had about Sony. Go ahead and do it. I am sure you will be hard
pressed to do this.
Myself, I have labeled myself as biased, unlike you. I own up to it,
unlike you. You, unfortunately keep whining about my bias, without
owning up to your own.
This thread is valid. It raises valid discussion on sales and the
future of Sony as a competitor in the console business. With this
recent discussion raised and Economist article/graph stating that the
PS3 will surpass the 360 in total sales by the end of 2008, it is good
to look on what basis that will happen. What game or games will make
a difference, and will any game in any genre surpass what is on the
360.

Well.... The big question is, with PS3 sales lagging worldwide, how much
of an impact is FFXIII going to have?
The FF series has always been strong in Japan but is it strong enough to
sell a $400 console all by itself? Will it be successful enough to
(finally) convince other developers to start releasing for the PS3?
The larger implications from how well FFXIII does in Japan could determine
the fate of the PS3, and even Sony's future in the console market. As a
gamer, surely you can see the benefit of having multiple consoles
competiting against one another, as opposed to just one 500lb gorilla -
especially if that gorilla was wearing Microsoft's colors. Surely you
also remember what happened to Sega when it dropped out of the console
race prematurely then tried to make another console for the following
generation.

Well, for it to be a big seller, it is going to have to beat the
current flagship RPG on the 360, Mass Effect, right? So, I am curious
to see what people's thoughts are on the subject, and how much they
see FF13 surpassing Mass Effect by.

I am not a fan of Microsoft, and have been a critic. I was a Sega
fan, and was disappointed when they dropped out. I, therefore, have
mixed feelings about Sony, particularly when the fanboys end up in the
mix.
But I also know consoles don't deserve mindless loyalty either.

Their sales are not lagging these past few months, if you care to follow
trends. The PS3 has been neck to neck with the 360 in total console sales
going steady now for almost 5 weeks straight. If you consider the install
base of both consoles, cross-platform games are selling better in ratio on
the PS3, so that is a good pick up for the PS. Don't get me wrong, the 360
still has the stronger overall game sales, because they have more titles
selling big. But as an example, Heavenly sword has actually picked up in
sales the past few weeks, more than doubling its worldwide sales in just
that span since it initial release Sept 12. That says something is going on
with Sony game sales, that consoles are moving and because the buyers
obviously want some games.
Developers will notice this and start making more commitments.

COD sold over 900k on the PS3 alone, as did Asassins Creed. More than
a third of their sales are because of the PS3.
Most of the PS3s sales for software are from outside the US.
Quite simply, while the PS3 is lagging in the US, it's doing
gangbusters everywhere else, and third parties are noticing that.
A game goes from selling just over 1.5 million thanks to the 360 to
selling another million, with minimal effort, on the Ps3. Easy money.
XBOTS refuse to admit this, and refuse to admit that the PS3 is
picking up massively accross the world.

PS3 is doing better than X360 in Japan and said to be doing better than
X360 in Europe except UK in recent months.
