yes, if you go to profile one of the tabs has each of the ranks and what
award is required to get them. You can then go to the awards tab to figure
out what you need to do to get that specific award to get promoted.

For example, I'm a captain and to get promoted to major requires "Warhawk
Exemplary Service" medal, which basically means I have to have 25 kills in
an aircraft in a single round , which I may never get since I
a) suck in the warhawk
b) because I suck, rarely fly in the warhawk
Heck even in the dogfight modes I only get 2 or 3 kills :-) And it'll take
me forever to reach the global requirements because I just don't fly in the
planes enough.

And i'm with you on this. I'm better at ground support. My only downfall is
those damn guided missiles and the aircraft turrets shooting from very far
away.
Also, because the maps dont really have distinctive landmarks, and are
pretty close to being mirrored for each side, it's hard to tell where the
hell you are... or were after you died.
