Not too shabby! It's a little spikey for my tastes, but I like the heavy
bolter conversion and pose is very dynamic.

nice job. the HB conversion turned out pretty good after all. I like the
off-center havoc launcher, the non-symmetry reinforces the impression of a
mutated hull. wish I'd thought of that :(
I should take some pictures of mine before I get around to painting it (as
if that's gonna happen any time soon). it's been sitting around waiting for
me to finish sticking some suitable stuff on the base for weeks now, or at
least that's my excuse.

Yeah, I like it enough that I'm considering doing the twin lascannon
of the other dread the same way. I'll probably stick with the
standard lascannon arm, though, for variety if nothing else.

I'm trying out epicast bases for this new army. The GW dreadnougt
base isn't bad, but it doesn't really fit with the snowy look I'm
planning.

That's awesome! That's the best Chaos dread conversion I've seen
in a good while that didn't involve tons of chains and tyranid scything
talons from the monstrous critters sprue. About the only draw-back I
can see will be transporting it with the spiky bits. And frankly - a
model that nice deserves to be tranported and deserves it's own case or
shoe-box, or whatever so it doesn't get banged up. I've added it to my
collection of Chaos pics for inspiration when I at long last get around
to building my fledgling chaos army some day. Again, it's really nice
work, thanks for sharing the pics. Can't wait to see it painted.

Here's a thought that might help: it's alright to take units
because you like them, even though they aren't the most
effecient for their designated role. No one is going to take
away your powergamer license if you field a less effecient
counter assault unit in your IG army.

True, that'll be a problem. Have you thought about perhaps cutting the spikes
back to just the points, rather than keeping the shafts as well? The net
effect will be more like the torso plate. Shorter, less breakable spikes might
work better.

Thanks. I do have some ideas for transport... This guy will be on a
base, and I'm thinking I could find a ring that would exactly hold the
base (a slice of pvc pipe, perhaps?) and keep him stable held just
with that. A ring maybe an inch high. I'd need something else to
keep him from popping out, though. Magnets, perhaps, or just some
foam that would press down on top.
As for painting... I'm going with Black Legion for fluff reasons, and
I'm going to see how it looks with the black highlighted to red,
sortof like on the studio daemon prince model. It will be a while
before I get there, though.

Not bad. Nothing like growing spikes to make a nice Loyalist whatnot turn to
Chaos. :)

I was kindof thinking that happened in the other order...
