Can't recall who it was asking a few days ago about an AddOn to
automatically greet guild members. Browsing on curse-gaming.com today, I
stumbled across GuildGreet 0.30beta which seems to be fairly new and to
exactly this. I have no clue whether it's development was spawned from the
questions in this group or not but I don't think anyone mentioned it so far.

I just had a go with it and it looks pretty simple and neat.

Cheers

If anyone in my guild ever installs such a mod, they'll get the /ignore

While it's nice to be greeted by a friend, I have no desire whatsoever
to be greeted by someone's UI mod.

Cheers!

Agreed. When I log in and 20 people send a computer generated message
to say "hi" to me while they actually don't even care enough to use their
fingers to type a message, what's the point in saying "hi" at all? It's
nothing more than stupid spam anymore.

How will you know ;-)

I can see your point. The reason I posted this is that a few days someone
asked if there was a mod doing this, as they had an issue in the guild that
people seemed upset, if they were not greeted after logging in.

I have to admit, it occasionally happens to me, that I miss some of my guild
mates coming online when I am in the midst of a fight.

And the addon does *NOT* autogreet. It just provides a list of people that
logged in, since you last looked. One could argue that it is just providing
another form for the information available in the chat log anyway.

I can then choose to type my greeting manually (I use 2-3 types of
greetings), or I can make my life simpler, by clicking on the name in the
addon window, which then greets the new person.

Yes, it does take care of some of the work (mainly keeping an eye on the
chat and typing). No, it is not an auto-greeting. Yes, it is still my
decision to greet you.

Would that be so bad? Especially since you will not know the difference :-)

Cheers
Urbin, who does not really feel strongly enough about greetGuild to advocate
it :)

Thanks for clarifying that. That is a very different kettle of fish to
what I was picturing and does indeed sound much more useful. It can be
very easy to miss the "Blahblah has come online" message, especially if
you're in the middle of a fight and three other conversations. :-)

Cheers!
