So, have been away from the game for a couple of weeks now (summer holiday).
I return and read the frontpage news at wowace.com:

http://www.wowace.com/forums/index.php?topic=14316.0

What do you people think about it?

Personally I generally like it, like the distinction between
release-versions and beta-versions which is lacking on files.wowace.com.
While paying for the liberty of auto-updating is not nice, I can understand
it looking at the massive amount of downloads from wowace. If the price is
fair I will pay for the service.

Yeah, bummer.  I love the WowAceUpdater.  If it's like $2-$3 a month:
maybe I'll bite.

OR
2. I will discover WHY when i used wowace updater it made ALL my mods
not working...

Never heard of Wowmatrix until now, nice find!

Looks like it even does non-Ace mods.  I wonder if will remain free
after everyone else jumps ship from Wowace?

As far as I understand the new curseforge website require payment to get
access to whether you use a third party tool or not (meaning wowmatrix as
well). But the API for downloading from curseforge will be opened so
there can be third party tools as well, which is good for me because I
don't like some of the features in the current Curse Download Application.

Once their bandwidth usage his the double-digit TB level monthly, highly
doubtful.

WowMatrix screwd my addons up so badly, I had to remove them all and start
over.  Took me most of a day to get my interface back to some semblence of
what it was before.

I'm also suspicious of the fact that immediately after running it, my virus
detector flagged a wow-related trojan in my C:\Program Files\World of
Warcraft\ directory -- one of the old patch updaters.   Now....maybe that's
a coincidence, but the timing made me completely non-trusting of the
program.

Hm, big changes.

For me, that has only been a problem 2 or 3 times over the last 18 months or
so, and then it took a few hours for all addons to be fixed again.

Yes, I can understand it from their perspective, but it is still "ouch" on
my side :-)

I guess, I will, too. If the price is fair and the system works as
painlessly as WoWAceUpdater does (I still prefer that over WoWMatrix, even
though I use both, but the latter not for Ace Addons).

I will have to see what using CurseForge means for WoWAce. While I am
hosting all of my addons on Curse, I have been using it less and less and
with less joy as I fell each of their make-overs have made it more
cumbersome to use and mainly less stable and a bigger hassle as an addon
maintainer.

I guess we'll have to wait and see how things turn out...

Cheers

WoWAceUpdater working painlessly ?
You must be lucky with the advertisements getting served to you ;-)
Depending on the advertisement at the bottom WAU can be a total
disaster crashing to the desktop over and over and over again.
However, since the latest update ( about a week ago ? ) it hasn't
crashed even once but maybe I got lucky as well with the
advertisements ;-)

PS
For those that didn't know, on several forums the advertisements get
the blame for the crashing of WAU.
Several weeks ago I got the same advertisement over and over again and
each and every time it crashed within 10 seconds.
