Sorry if it's a stupid question but I've been seeing this word used a lot lately.

From what I can see doing a search on MSN, keylogging is a Trojan type
software that can be loaded on to your machine and can capture your
keystrokes, and send them back to the intruder, handy if you want to get
peoples credit card details!
I'm sure there are NG users who can give a fuller explanation

Keylogging software is also used by companies to monitor their employee's
computer usage. While controversial, this is a generally accpted way to
monitor that the company is not loosing productive employees to the
addiction of online scrabble, or downloading sims stuff.. :)
The bad ones, the trojans, would be used to get important personal
information from you to use in a malicious way..not good at all. There are
many interesting articles I found:
http://www.techtv.com/news/security/story/0,24195,3402321,00.html, and also
an anti keylogging software:
http://www.all-internet-security.com/free_anti_keylogger_download.html.
Not the complete story by any means, but hope that helps.

Key loggers are also being marketed to parents so that they can keep
an eye on their kids on line and computer activity.. it is also being
marketed to *lovers* so that they can put a hidden keylogger onto
their patners computer to see if they are cheating.
The best way to find out if you have one on your system is to have a
program, like a firewall, that will alert you to your email program
trying to send out a message that you didn't authorize.

Heh. I used to lurk in some "white hat" hacking ngs and you wouldn't
believe the number of times "How do I hack a Hotmail account?" gets
asked.
