I have just succeeded in completing the 10th Terrian mission from the Original StarCraft in 29min and 46sec (under 30 minutes) after completely destroying all buildings from both Alpha Squadron and Elite Guard as well as (I am pretty sure) all their personnel.

Congrats . .
BTW . . . If it's taking you more than a year to complete any mission you might want to at least seek out some advice or something.

Advice? Well since you're offering:
Now that I have achieved my goal in life, what should I do now?

Thanks for your contribution anyway.

The Protoss campaign is a lot harder in my opinion .... until you got carriers.

Is that the one you can win in about 2 minutes by sending Zeratul and the 4 Dark Templars down to destroy the Nexus in the lower right corner?
I agree, it's pretty hard. What's your fasted time if you try destroying everything else before destroying the last two Nexus?

I felt intimidated in the first mission of Protoss campaign (classic, not broodwars) .. :)

Without a point of reference, the mission number doesn't do much for me.
And I am clearly too lazy to attempt to look it up

It's mission 7 of Protoss compaign (Homeland), the first real mission of Dark Templars. It's Protoss vs Protoss.

I am not supposed to know where the Nexus is in the very beginning... :)
IN the beginning, how did you defend your base? The Conclave sent a reaver, 2 dragoons, a few probes and an observer to start the first attack.

First if you're having so much trouble you probably need to read this: http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Hotkey
Second: You NEVER stop building probes until you have about 25 per Nexus.
In this case: I move my 3 Must_Survive characters back of the minerals although I allow Felix to chase any Scouts that get inside the walls and very rarely let Tassadar lightning reavers but frequently get him killed in the process.
I immediately: - send a probe to build a Nexus near the minerals/gas to the right. - upgrade zealot speed in Citadel; dragoon range in Core; and shield level in Forge.
I put my 4 Dark templars to the right of the gate and 4 dragoons in the gate sending my observer, scout and 4-6 zealots to the ground above the new nexus, however in your case I would put two of each in the two locations.
When a Reaver attacks, you attack it first and ignore everything else. The advantage of a mixed attack is that the Reaver can kill only one attack group at a time: usually zealots (who arrive first), Dark Templars, and then Dragoons.
I also build three or four new cannons; 2-3 above the new Nexus and one behind the Nexus to keep attackers busy while I move in more defense.
After that I spend 15-20 minutes mostly focused on upgrading and collecting minerals while constructing just enough dragoons, zealots and templars to maintain defense (Scouts are a waste of money).
At about the 1/2 hour mark I am maxed out for units with about 3 dozen dragons, 1 dozen zealots, and 10-12 Templars. I start my attack by Hallucinating 30-40 zealots which I MOVE (NOT attack) into the base on the left edge. This causes the Arbiters to use up most of their freezes and reduces Reaver magazines.
Immediately after that I convert the Templars to Archons, and then attack with ALL my zealots, Dragoons, Dark Templars (if any remain) and Archons (when they become available).
Since I usually have 9 or 10 GateWays built at this point (placement is important to prevent blockages) I start building new dragoons as soon as troops start dying.
I also load 16 probes onto 2 shuttles and move them down to the conquered red base, where I immediately build a new Nexus so I don't run out of minerals and Gas.
Since Red on the right is now depleted from trying to defend the left you should attack their within minutes.
In the best case, I can destroy everything on the map (which means destroying the last red and yellow Nexus within seconds of each other) in under 40 minutes, and always under 50 minutes.
To succeed you need practice, but since you will never do anything more important with your life ...
Hope this helps;
