It does that - once you have completed 4 of the 5, the battle will trigger
if you return to the Seer. It's best to save two till last. I seem to
remember saving the Beholders and the second time with the Ithillids till
last.
Best wishes

sheesh...well, I went back to a quicksave and started over...but now I
know that I'll go back to the battle and just forget the Beholder's or
maybe I'll just play both and see which I like best..

Because the battle triggers after a certain amount of time. The trick
is- don't go back to the main camp. You can set up teleportation
points with your rogue stones if you want. You can't use them except
to sell in chapter three anyway.
You din't miss anything, the Beholders are boring, and the 'basement'
of that encounter is a pain (no magic zone, which eliminates your
strength buffs from anywhere AND the weight neutralization of a bag of
holding...

Thanks...I found that out, went back and redid...I was really expecting
the beholders to be much worse than that and the bebolith was a 3 stroke
death even with Kathyrra dead on the floor (when we ran throug, she
decided to stay and amuse herself and got killed in the meantime..when
she was resurrected my inclination was to find a button that said "I
TOLD you to follow!"

I ended up going back up a level and distributing the stuff between the
3...pain in rear...
I am now doing the Mimic thing with little success so far. I only
managed to get one pile of gems (since I had no idea what that whole
thing was and I turned on the levers and put them there thinking to lure
her into the beams but that didn;t work...I killed the rats...I don't
care if they ARE green..when I talked to them they had nothing
constructive to add so gone they went..BTW, does anyone else see a
resemblence of Mimic to The Luggage? Wonder if they're doing a little
Pratchett borrowing there...or maybe there's some other mythology? I
could only come up with Pandora's Box...
