Anyone ever consider getting together with complete strangers to play Halo/Halo2 together? ;)

Just curious but do people ever get together with others and play
system link matches with Halo? I know there is always xbox live but
system link matches are much faster and for people with crappy ISPs
and crappy uploads, we're limited by the number of people we can play
with.

On the Halo 2 bonus disk, there's one segment where they show complete
strangers getting together to play a huge 4 xbox tournament. It looked
like fun.

If u guys do, then how do u go about doing it? Meeting in chat rooms?
Some sort of Halo club? Any help or tips would be appreciated.

Many game shops host little tournaments.  EBGames for example, the
"GameCrazy" shop that's in Hollywood Video just had a Halo 2 tournament
up the street from me.

Either use gamespy, or XBConnect  (www.xbconnect.com // my personal fav)  --
It's sort of like Live, except your the matchmaker.

The lag is a bit more rough w/ those two programs...

I have a group of friends that I organize with.  2 weeks after Halo 2 was
released I had 12 xboxes system linked.  It was great every person had a TV
of their own.  Occasionally an extra person would drop by and those with the
bigger tv's would have to share.  We played for 10 + hours

that sounds awesome dude. most of my friends don't play halo or halo 2
that well so even if we do get together, the matches are pretty
uneven.

Well there was a very wide range of capability.  We played a wide range of
gametypes and tried to keep the skill level fairly even.

We always start out with a few practice rounds and then when everyone is
warmed up we play a game of slayer for teams.

When the slayer game is over all the odds go on one team and the evens go on
the other team. If there is an odd number of people then the person that
came in last goes with the even side to make up for the "odds" having the #1
player. It usually works out pretty well and splits up the talent.
