In case you don't know the  Black Mesa mod is an attempt to recreate
the original HL in the Source (HL2) engine and Havok physics
(apparently with Valve's blessing).

The project is into its 3rd year now and some of the models and level
design look amazing.

I can't imagine it will be too long before the beta is released --
makes you wonder why Valve didn't think of it themselves.

The last frontpage news, are from 2007.

Excuse me for being slightly less excited than I was at the beginning of the year.

The devblog was updated less than two weeks ago.

It looks like they're taking their time, which is a good thing. The other
good thing is that they are still working on it.

Given the amount of time they've already spent on it, it would be a
profligate waste to simply abandon it. Just browsing their forums, the
amount of detail they're going into is amazing. It wouldn't surprise
me if Valve buy them out in the end.

However, I don't think I can go back to shooting Vortigaunts again ---
not after holding my Vortiguant plush toy.

True.

What a shock to deal with.

Best wishes!

What is the difference between this and the the HL Source that came
out a few years? ago?

HL Source was just improved textures/water
BMS is a total conversion/improvement
Have a look at the screenhots or the teaser, the difference should be rather
obvious

Yes, I am happy to see it progressing, I would certainly enjoy a new  mod to
play about now.

And I thank you kind sir.

Rene:  Someone here told me about Coast to Atmosphere mod. If you haven't
played this, do so. It is terrific. Very long and really a great game. I am
at the very end. Had to get help from this group to solve a most difficult
part (thank you, Randy!) to get this far. Stuck again, but even the
walkthrough says this ending is particularly difficult to solve. Scott in
