No takers? ok..On a scale of 1 to 10, PC mag gave Half life 2 a
Kickass 11 when it came out.

Bah! Victims of hype! I'm one of those people who think that Far Cry was
robbed, and that it deserved more recognition than HL2 got, and that it is a
better game. But I'm open to arguments to the contrary!

I like the dialogs in the HL series, but I must admit the HL2 lacks somewhat
behind HL
I have just played through EP2 and finally I experienced a game from Valve
which resembles the humour we came to love in HL

If you love HL and haven't played EP2 then please invest the time and few
bucks
imho you won't regret it :)

Oh yes, EP2 is a blinding game! The end sequence is great! As far as the
last episode released goes, well, I was on the last level and got a bit fed
up, never bothered finishing it. Since then I have reinstalled, lost all
saves. Steam cloud cannot come soon enough for us users IMHO.

I have replayed Far Cry a month ago and it was terrific I must admit.
I just finished HL2 for the umpteenth time and again was blown away
by the game. The main AI's was ahead of their time..looked fantastic
and the graphics  was phenomenal.IMHO it deserved a "Kickass 11"
rating.
Played EP1 right after that..was too short!
Just starting EP2 (again!!).
Carl - 09 Aug 2008 08:27 GMT
I had a saunter through the 64 bit version of Far Cry the last time I
completed it. That too was a game that was way, way ahead of it's time!

I love FPS and play most of the new one's that come out.  Played HL2 a
dozen times at least, played Ep1 half-dozen and Ep2 twice.  It's
dropping off with every release.  I don't feel the need or desire to
play them often now at all and that's a big change for me.  Don't know
if I'm getting jaded with games or the HL series is getting jaded?

On the other hand I have only ever played one game I enjoyed more.  COD4
comes close, but of the others I've played (or replayed in the last few
months) they were all good but there are no other contenders at all.

Some examples of these are COD4, Bioshock, FEAR and Extraction Point,
Timeshift, Crysis and Prey.

The one game that does (IMHO) beat the HL series is Stalker.  Even with
the bugs.  I'm looking forward to Clear Skies much more than Episode 3....

I'll get me coat.

IMHO the HL2 series is getting a bit long in the tooth as even though
the graphics etc. have improved radically since HL1 the actually
premise/structure of the game is still the same. When you look at what
Stalker is trying to achieve and compare this with the simplicity of HL
is doesn't look good. Not to say that I'm not looking forward to HL2:Ep3
but I just wish the had made more of the series while it was still
"fresh" so to speak.

Yeah, I forgot about Time Shift and Pray AND Crysis of course!!

Stalker was cutting edge and I enjoyed it, but two or three times
through and i can;t find myself wanting to play it again.
Definately looking foward to Clear skies.

HL3 (EP3?) is one FPS I am looking foward to the most..partly because
of Portal and the reference to Aperture and the mysterious "Borialis"
ship. I wonder if it will be the conclusion of the HL series?? Portal
gun anyone??

Don't get me wrong I'll buy it and enjoy playing it as I have with all
the HL games. The problem is that the corridor shooter is getting long
in the tooth now and even added things like the portal gun can only keep
the same idea going for so long. Personally I would like the series to
end there. How wants HL to become just another one of the all time
classics stretched to far as for Doom and Quake - I mean what reviews
would these games have got if it wasn't for their heritage?

That was a fantastic game. But it definitely needs mods to work
correctly. I did what I consider my best headshot ever in that game. Had to
lead the target like in real life, took me 3 shots, but the 3rd one hit home
with the desired result. The arena was cool too, Mad Max time there!

I'm torn between having the series end and continuing on; depends on
how the story unfolds and how exciting the game play is.
The "briefcase" guy and who he represents and what his main
objective is sort of keeps the mystery of the story going
.
Any news as to when EP3 will be going gold?
