Lot's of people, good maps and pools of blood... That for getting the
server Civ... It was a good one... My ping was never over 150 and
there was no lag at all... Gotta see the screen shots.... Man, I was
physically out of breath then Crossfire ended... That was totally

And what's with the fish tank? Are people in there immune to fire?

HeHe.... Get out of the micro with the classic jump-duck.... You're
immune in the aquarium except thru the top of the tank, RPG or rifle
grenade... It's also easy to drop a bunch of snarks into the top of
it.... You can also toast someone in it with the Tau....

Yeah, that was fun, even with a ping of around 500!  After I gave up
and watched it with PingPlotter for a while the ping came down to
around 100 so I dove back in and got massacred.  8*)

How long would it take to get Steam on my PC?
Dialed up and logged in last night at 12.0kbps. Retried and got 9.6kbps.
Rebooted and dialed up at 7kbps. At this point I quit. :-\
Found out my phoneline is super static and pretty much pooched my
dialup.

Admittedly there has been a huge body of posts in this newsgroup
regarding Steam lately but how many of you have actually consistently
tried it?

As I've said in other posts. I've never had any problem with it.

I've been running steam for a couple of months, and I haven't had any
major problems with it.. although i'm on broadband using a fast
computer.  People on slower connections with slower comps have been
having real trouble with it (Apparently there are real performance
issues for some people in CS1.6) ...  especially people on dialup who
aren't yet able to use steam offline..  I know thats put alot of people
off installing steam ... according to the steam site, the fixes are
coming soon, so it shouldn't be too long to wait.. But if you had a
CS1.6 bash now... I suspect there would be a very low turnout.

Shame. There is no point in having a 1.5 bash in my opinion since some
of the best features to come for CS have only just become available.

I agree..  I'm a fan of alot of the new features (including the rather
controversial shield.. even though i don't actually use it much, and i
love the cheap rifles - it feels more balanced with more affordable guns
for the losing team )..  there will be plenty of opportunities to bash
on CS1.6....even if HL2 does make it's 2003-holidays release date, i'm
sure it won't stop us all playing CS from time to time. :)

Yeah, probably do. Although I've not used them much. I'm too much of an
old foggie, stuck in my ways. Is it just me or is the AK just so much
more...juicy now?

I hope so. I'm really interesting in playing a AGHL vs bear-bots team.
Could prove to be the revival of CS bashes in my opinion.

Well, they've certainly had an impact on maps which were previously
heavily balanced towards Ts... I think they add an extra tactical
dimension (I've seen them used properly by an organised CT team to blast
through the bottleneck in cs_siege... great for sending 2 or 3 dummy
targets to waste a sniper's shot, and push forward while the rest of the
CTs dive behind them for cover)

Maybe you've just not been on enough losing teams ;)

You're not the first to say that about the AK, although I can't say it's
made my aiming any better :)  ..  but since the M4A1 is still a bit out
of losing-team budget, the FAMAS is a good cheap alternative at short to
medium range  (One thing that bugs me is that the guns aren't actually
called those anymore..  I don't know why they changed the names in 1.6..
its mighty confusing!)

Are bots actually part of CS1.6? ... i thought they were removed at the
end of steam beta so that they could be used as a selling point for CZ.

I think you're confusing the new strider with the old. The old strider
could aim and argue for England. The new Strider has learnt to shut up
but now can't hit Texas with a shotgun whilst sitting down.

The names are confusing and I've not memorized my buy keys yet. The two
cheaper rifles are proving popular from what I've seen too.

Your joking?

Me neither..   i had the old buy keys memorised, which is kinda annoying
when i forget and end up with a gun that i didn't want! (I keep
forgetting that the MP5 has changed to SMG 2 - then buying the Uzi/TMP
by accident.. d'oh!)

No, if you put an actual smiley on top of the assumed smiley you're being
redundant, not cancelling it out.
If you're being serious, just make a note of it.

Hey Civ. How do you get the "album" to work with the arrows on top to
cycle throught the pics?
Do you have to build something that lists each filename or can it read
from the directory list?
Just looking for a way to page through pictures list instead of hand
building a HTML page for each pic.

I'd have thought it *was* an HTML page for each pic... photoshop and
iphoto both do it that way - it's very easy, but probably wasteful of
space and code.

I used a friend's copy of photoshop. But I've abandoned it already
because the guy who runs the server we were using for the bash
introduced me to a bit of software called "Gallery" (gallery.sf.net)
which is much better if your server supports PHP.

I think I got that and I *think* my webserver supports PHP but I
