Kinda OT post - Steam

Hi all, just wondering if anyone here has had a similar prob.  I've just
bought Lost planet and installed it.  It installed it into the default
location without asking me.  It installed itself into the steam folder.

I was wondering if anyone knows if its possible to somehow move it out so
that it lives in my games folder?

ie, d:\games\lost planet

Atm, the closest I can get is putting the entire steam folder into my games
folder but thats a little messy.  Basically I'd like this game to be on its
own like 99.9% of the rest of my games, in my d:\games folder.

Any ideas?

Cheers Dre

Why a -1?

You can install steam in eg d:\games and add all you exsisting games to the
"my games" menu in Steam
I don't see a reason/purpose for a d:\games\lost planet other than the
"that's what I usually do"

The -1 is because again, time and time, steam proves how annoying it is.

Thats kind of how i have it setup now.  There is now a steam folder in my
games folder which has ep1, ep2, portal, tf2 and lost planet.

It sucks though cause before steam I had a folder for each game and was able
to download and update my games when I felt like it.  This is how I like it,
even if you dont see a reason/purpose for it.  Steam isn't for everyone.

Now when I get a new game, I have to wait until the update has finished
within steam before I can even look at it and everytime there is an update I
have no idea how big it is or how long its going to take.  Simple little
addition, but hey, valve obv have better things to do that make steam usable
*for everybody*.  There is *no* reason why they cannot allow you to move the
location of a game install.

Dont even get me started on the stupid annoying friends popups sh.t.  Steam
is a good idea in some ways but it will *never* work for me unless they make
some *huge* changes to the client.

You must be new to Real Life, eh?

Then don't use it.  You don't always get things exactly the way you want,
Junior.

There are reasons, which you are obviously ignorant of.

Perhaps you should learn how to configure your software a little.

Pathetic.

Please inlighten me oh great one, tell me why steam is incapable of tracking
a game in a diff folder than inside the steam one.  It works for Half-life
2, so why not the rest??  Please tell me I'm oh so ignorant, LOL!

He's not posted here since his abrupt departure last June, but he still gets
the opportunity to email poor-quality jokes to people he doesn't like much.
Last one was a couple of months ago...

Heh, yeah likewise with Steam.  Every time I start it, it has to update :\

You still can
Uncheck the "keep this game up to date" thing for each of your games

True, it should be a matter of configuration, but conflicts a  little
with the idea behind Steam
In some ways Steam GUI and Steam design principles also conflicts with
the design principles done in Windows
eg storing of userdata etc
On the other hand I don't have any program which is as easy to
maintain than games which runs under Steam

> Dont even get me started on the stupid annoying friends popups sh.t.

How is it annoying, just curious :)
Most of the time Steam is shut down on my PC, only when I wants to
play a game now and then I'll start the program

You can turn off the friends list too, just keep it signed out, and no
problem :)

Yep, but I'm talking about the first patches, the ones that the game
requires to start, you cant run it until you have the update.  It would be
so nice if steam would at least tell you how big the update is, that way
people wont accidentally blow out they monthly quota for example...

When I moved the steam folder, it reset all my settings, I got millions of
popups saying that blah has added me to their list.  I switched all the
popup crap off, but they still came in thick and fast.  Just a small little
niggle thats all, but steam (imo) is full of them, whats worse is they could
fix *all* of them simply by giving the user more options.  Everytime I run
steam, it updates itself, but I never ever see any changes, so what do they
keep updating?

I'm the same, I only run steam when I have to, otherwise its shutdown.

Cheers Dre
