Do you mean the original Half-Life? The original HL2, Half-Life 2... is

HL2 (and all Valve games subsequently released after HL2) requires
online authentication over Steam - so never, ever buy a copy from ebay.

Nope, never have been, and probably never will be either. As Carl
suggested, the HL2 Orange Box is good value for money if you don't
already own HL2 - it comes with two additional HL2 episodes (each of
which are several hours long), plus Portal (A really really cool game)
and TF2 (which is a multiplayer mod/addon).
