HL2 is frustrating...

I've heard so much about how this is one of the best games ever, and
maybe the best FPS, but I have to admit I'm getting really frustrated
early on.

I feel like I am constantly being attacked by enemies from all over the
place, oftentimes from above when I can't even see them right away, and
a lot of times I run low on ammo as well.

Then there's those little flying razor things that seem to come at me 4
or 5 at a time.

Finally, I just finished a boat sequence where a helicopter was shooting
at me and dropping bombs in front of me. It seems like there's just no
way to avoid some of this stuff. I can dodge most, but not all, of the
bombs, but when it shoots at me it's like I just have to sit there and
take it. (And then of course there's crashing all over the place and not
knowing where to go.)

I'm always good at this kind of stuff, but for some reason I feel like
HL2 is just overloading me with enemies and damage and there's almost
nothing I can do about it but just plow ahead.

Does it at least get a little better than this?

Sometimes you just have to wait it out or run like hell and hide
untill later in the game you get the fire power to knock em out of the
skies.
Might try playing on easy setting the first time through.

It gets easier the second time around. One thing that helps is that
when you're being attacked by the pistol guys early on, you can
generally whack them with your crowbar before you take serious
damage. I personally find that I end up having more ammo than I need,
most of the time.

Your pistol or your crowbar are the best bet for handling those early
on. But shortly from where you are now you'll be given the gravity
gun, which will make dealing with them easy and fun.

You can generally avoid much of the gunfire by jinking and weaving,
but it takes practice.

It felt a little overwhelming early on for me too, but I got by.

No, suck it up.  (Just kidding. :)

(Oh, quick tip: in Ravenholm, rely on the gravity gun as much as
possible. If you thought you had more enemies than ammo before, just
you wait.)

HL2 wasnt frustrating until ep2 (nothing bad about portal, thats just
superb), i was a fan of HL2, but the last episode is not only a big
disapointment but frustrating too and lacks a involving game like HL2 or
episode 1. Valve should be making a better games next time. ep2 is just
rubbish.
