I am looking to get into Half Life here on my PC.

Thing is:  there seems to be all sorts of names, versions, add-on type
things, & whatnot.

Can / could anyone point my in the right direction as to where to start in
this new 'venture'?  Program-wise ...

I see there is Half Life  then HL 1; Anthology, HL2, & Ep. 1, 2, & "Orange
Box".

Someone set me straight?

Thank you, ...

Sniper

PS:  What is the difference, if any, to the original Half Life PC version &
Half Life PlayStation2 version?

.

Buy the Orange Box, that will have games: Half Life 2, Episodes One and Two,
I would then buy Half Life on its own. That way you can play them all
chronologically. Plus you will get Team Fortress2 and Portal, which is like
a 3d lemmings. Of course, that's just looking at the steam shop, if you get
the games from an online or high street shop you could get the orange box
and have hard copy instead of doing a giant download. I would not recommend
buying any of these games second hand from the likes of Play Trade. Go here
for starters: www.steampowered.com you will need to download and register
with Steam - click the GET STEAM NOW button. you can then buy your games
online, or get box product from the shops and it will install into steam.
Make sure you have a lot of space on whichever drive you install steam into.
After you have downloaded/ installed all your games, you can back them all
up onto DVD through the file menu, so if you ever reinstall you download the
steam client again and can restore all your games without having to wait
hours for them to download again.

On the SP2 you have
   HL "normal" singleplayer
   Coop in split screen
And Decay introducing Gina and Corlette

Gamespot carries articles, reviews, videos, interviews related to the PS2
version
http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/action/halflife/index.html

A small fragment and interesting info from one of the interviews:
Remember the locker where Gordon get his HEV suit?
Two lockers are empty
It's actually HEV suits belonging to Dr Gina Cross and Dr Corlette Green
At the point where Gordon enters the locker Gina and Corlette have already
collected their suits during decay ...

The aiming "problem" is caused by the PS2 interface

Aha, I'd always wondered where the name 'Gina' came from (Decay was
never available on PC afaik.. ).    HLDM had a gordon lookalike model
called "gina" (fully equipped with HEV suit, of course).   I always
thought 'Gina' was supposed to be like a female Gordon for DM'ers, or a
character from HL1 SP who was left out of the final cut (Since HL was
rather lacking in female characters..  unless you count Nihilanth :p ).
Nice to see they added her back in afterwards.

Was'nt Gina the chick who brings up the sample to
Gordon in the original accident?

You only saw her if you went looking with 'noclip' IIRC.

I don't know what Decay is.

Perhaps.. :-)   Although I can't even remember hearing the name
mentioned by any of the scientists.. I may have missed it

Ah.. well that would make sense, since I remembered the sample came up
from an elevator and wasn't hand-delivered :)

> I don't know what Decay is.

I think its a single-player episode/addon only available to Playstation
2 owners

Some more info
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gina_Cross

Remember the holographic character you saw in the Hazard Course?

"Doctor Gina Cross is a fictional character in the Half-Life series of
first-person shooter computer games. She first appeared as the holographic
guide for Gordon Freeman in Black Mesa's Hazard Course and then later as one
half of the protagonist team in Half-Life: Decay."
