I knew you'd come through!  Still no pc.games newsgroup (I must have changed
something a long time ago, I'll have to look for it) but I'll know what to
look for for my video card now.

I just recently put my own RAM sticks in, for the first time.  Will I have a
problem installing my own video card?  Will there be any big downloads to go
along with it?  Big downloads are a problem in my neck of the big woods.

If I don't have to take my computer to a technician to install the card I
can buy a better one!

As long as you've bought the right card then it's very easy to fid one, and
you should get pretty  recent drivers with the card so I doubt you'll have
any massive downloads

Any idea what mobo you have in there?  (It's normally written on it if
you can get to look).

If you post that plus your budget range you'll get advice on what type
of slot you have and therefore what type of graphics card you can buy.

Once it arrives you'll get more detailed installation instructions but
basically you just unplug the old one and plug in the new one (same as
the memory).  The drivers should come with the card on a disc so there
won't be any downloading unless you want/need to update those drivers.

But go to add/remove programs and uninstall your old graphics drivers before
switching off and replacing your old graphics card with the new one!

That was the 'more detailed' bit...  ;-)
