Hi All,
I get texture problems in Portal and EP2 with my 7800GS using
latest drivers 163.71. In Portal, the elevator has huge rays coming from
wall. In EP2 often the chain link fences will go solid. All other 3D games
are fine.

Anyone got any ideas?

Typical bad driver or hardware ( card itself )

I have seen this kind of troubles also when one overclocks.

Some cards seem not to really be Nvidia in which case
you need to get your drivers from the manufacturer of the card.

Possible bad video ram but not sure as there are no
decent diagnostic ram tests for video cards yet.
Just those stupid stress tests.
Someone needs to make a diagnositic that will
test video cards like memtest tests PC ram.
Something more for a technician and less for a layman.

Check all your drivers for updates, Audio, Motherboard, PC Bios
run memtest 86 and make sure you pass test 5 ( block transfer)
Make sure your BIOS settings are correct like AGP apature equals
amount of video ram.
Otherwise you might need a new (Good) video card.

I got the 163.75 Beta drivers and increased AGP memory aperture size to
512MB from 256MB and now everything worked great. Not sure if it was drivers
or memory aperture size but HL2 EP2 and Portal run great.

Oops...not fixed. I get same thing in other 3D games so is the video card
for sure. Will RMA.
