Oh, man - if only we'd known! How many collective years of healthy
outdoor activity have this newsgroup been deprived of because of what
is now obviously an irrational fear.
Makes it a bit less of a proud, macho thing, now, to say 'I'm off
hunting bears'.... just get your kitty to tree it and then shoot it
down!

I wonder what the feline equivalent of a hounds "treed" bark is?
Sorry, I read "Where The Redfern Grows" to my kids recently... ;o)

We'll need to wait for one of the resident firearms experts to confirm this,
but I'm pretty sure you need opposable thumbs to fire a weapon accurately,
so it's probably beyond the abilities of your average cat.

Yeah, you'd think that - but don't turn your back on them - I warned you...

We have three cats and a dog and they hunt as a pack... No one steps
outside around here at night now... No you don't need an opposable
thumb to shoot a gun but having one is handy....

Very tricky, but who said anything about a firearm?

Its a double-cross! That bear was clearly playing scared to lure us
into a false sense of security!
Either that, or, we need to be even more careful, if the bears know
something about cats that we don't ;)
