IIRC, there's a setting somewhere in the old HL engine that lets you muck
about with the field-of-view type thing - so you can make the edges of the
screen start to wrap around, effectively giving you some peripheral vision.

Anyone?

Because of various exploits associated with FOV, you have to have
sv_cheats enabled.  once you do that, the command is simply 'fov' - the
default is 90  (try fov 30 and for a good sniper-like view :) )

Thanks Ben - but isn't FOV just the thing where it zooms in?

I used to have that assigned to one of my zoom buttons on TFC to let me zoom
extra close - "FOV 10" I think it was - but I never really got around to
"cheating" with it coz I kept forgetting I'd assigned it. Sniper Auto-Rifle
plus 10x zoom is a very quick way of finishing off "fatties" (a.k.a. hwg@ys)
btw.

it does both - using a larger number than 90 will do the opposite of
zooming in :)  .. sorta like a "drunk" effect ;)

Ahhhh, excellent! Right, I'm going to try that! Thanks mate, I'll let you
know how I get on...

I remember in Q2 you could change the FOV to whatever the hell you
wanted. I started on 120 which was kinda cool, although tended to result
in things getting very big at the edge of the screen.

I remember trying FOV 359 for a round (yes, that's a full circle of FOV)
and it was like being trapped inside a double edged fishbowl, and you
couldn't see anything in front of you!
