I'm thinking of buying a Dell 22" widescreen LCD. Does anyone know if it's
possible to play - wait for it - TFC in fabulous widescreen, or will this
monitor ruin my life forever?

I actually just bought a 22" LCD last weekend after many weeks of
research. Unfortunately I didn't check out Dell as I'm wanted to have
the parts in hand from a real person so there is someone I can take a
swing at it it's all wrong.
I ended up getting an LG L226WTX (CAN$407). I had looked at the Samsung
226BW (CAN$560)initially as I really liked all my Samsung's but the
research shows that they are doing a kind of "bait and switch".
They have a really good 226BW made by them (has an "S" in the model) but
also have their other company AOC Tech making monitors (with the "A" in
model number) which by all accounts are rated as much less quality. I
was too nervous about getting the 'wrong' model.

I looked more to ensure proper response timings for my BF2\HL2 FPS type
games.

My bro-in-law bought a couple 22" Dell's and was happy with them for his
WoW sessions.

Apparently TFC 1.6 added widescreen support...

I have the Samsung 226BW (S) and I love it.  Didn't think I would after
my 21" Dell CRT.  And yes it does spoil you - I'd hesitate now to buy a
game I couldn't play in 1680x1050 loveliness.  Which is a point.... is
your PC up to playing games at that rez Marcus?

As an aside there have been a lot of recent comments on forums that the
(A) panel that some may get with the Samsung are poorly set up out of
the box and once adjusted are as good as the (S).  No idea if this is
true or not.  Over here overclockers.uk 'were' guaranteeing (S) panels
(I grabbed one) but I think that because of popularity and a shortage of
stock they are no longer doing this.

Ok, to answer my own question... just got my Dell 2407WFP and found that TFC
runs at a max resolution of 1600x1200 - which is ok, I guess.

Just FYI...
