Supposed to go to London today to train a guy.  I'm on the road and I
get a phone call that he's phoned in sick.  On way back home I just pass
an ASDA when there's an advertisement on the car radio - Casino Royale
Collectors 2-disk DVD at ASDA is £7 until 12noon.  U-turn and into the
car-park and pick one up.  Sweet...

Who says there's no good side to sickness and diarrhoea?  ;-)

It helps a lot when it is someone else that is sick !

That's like saying beer is bad.
I'm confused...

Not a great fan of that film. It's ok, not the best Bond and the
verdict is still out on Daniel Craig.
I'd like to see how he develops in the role, he just doesn't seem bond
quiet yet.

I watched Casino Royale over the weekend passed, and I thought that Daniel
Craig did a smashing job. But, that's just my opinion

He did an excellent job.  I prefer the darker aspect.  If they keep this
up they'll get a lot of new fans.  Wasn't a single woman in our family
that liked James Bond (too far-fetched and silly they say) - they've all
enjoyed Casino Royale.

"Shaken or stirred?"
"Do I look like I give a damn?"

Best since Connery.

High praise, indeed.
I think I'll have to check it out.

BTW, the last season of Sopranos is about to begin. I have been
re-watching last season On Demand to catch up.
Does is show over there at the same time?

Of course, it's subject to each person's interpretation/opinion.  For
myself, I thought it was probably the worst Bond movie in recent memory.
The *action* was good, the *actors* were decent (but not great), but the
*storyline* just didn't seem very "Bond-ish" to me at all.

In my opinion, it was just another so-so movie in the "action" genre, that
I wouldn't have known was even a Bond movie if they hadn't used his name.
Didn't have the same "feel" as the older ones, at all.

Well, you just talked me into it.
I haven't enjoyed a Bond movie since Moore.

I haven't seen any of the new ones for years and years.

Let us know what you think of it...

Unfotunately I have, and I've not really liked any of them since Roger
Moore took over. It's taken ages to get out from his camp shadow, but
flying cars and idiotic one-liners have still been the order of the
day. The second anything dangerous starts happening, that damned
'exciting chase ending in a dopey stunt' music starts up and you might
as well go and make a cup of tea.

Casino Royale isn't like that. To Dan that's a problem, since he likes
James Bond films. For me, it feels more like an early sixties, gritty
thriller, and very British. It's still a Bond movie, so don't expect
The Ipcress Files, but it's so, so much better than recent Bonds.

In my opinion it was more 'Bond' than a lot of the older one's.  None of
the others since Connery ever exuded that air of danger and
unpredictability (Timothy Dalton did try but it wasn't overly successful
- probably poor scripts rather than poor acting).

Having read the books a long time ago I'd also say Daniel Craig's Bond
is closer to what Ian Fleming envisioned too... and on Bond-ish you do
know this is updated but otherwise very true to the very first Bond
book?

A gritty dangerous Bond, a believable villain, a comprehensible plot and
no invisible car - thumbs up from me.

A "dangerous" Bond?  I didn't get that feeling, at all.

A "plot"?  You mean the poker game?  I didn't even notice a "plot".

I also didn't like how Bond got "attached" to the female (emotionally).
Not very Bond-ish, IMHO.

OK.  Plain to me.

You did watch this film didn't you?

> I also didn't like how Bond got "attached" to the female (emotionally).

You didn't miss the fact that this was how he became the Bond you know
and love did you?  Where he learned to be a cold bastard, to never get
attached?

> Not very Bond-ish, IMHO.

'Bond-ish' as invented by Broccoli you mean?  Not a hair out of place,
never rumpled his suit, silly gadgets, completely unbelievable?  Connery
was the only one close to how the character was written - the real Bond
- until now.

I can understand you don't like it - especially if you grew up on
Brosnan - too different.  Personally I think they had to reinvent or the
series would die.  I think they did a great job and I'm looking forward
to more of the same.

Yep, about 2 episodes in now on Channel 4. It aired a few months ago on
satellite, which I watched for about 8 shows until I missed a couple -
I've held off and just waiting for tv to catch up to where I was.

The series starts slowly, with some interminably dull dream sequences,
but it soon picks up. Christopher is as outstanding as ever, and Vito
is just brilliant. Great stuff.

Hmm, I was being vague again.
Sorry.

By last season I meant 'final season'- Season 7.
I finished watching Season 6 last night.

Judy gets aggravated when I call her "Kaisha".
