Hi guys,

I have done some Googling but I seem to be getting conflicting or out of
date information, so I thought I'd ask you guys for a more up to the moment
approach.

I was thinking of building a PC to run FEAR and perhaps offer a wee bit of
future-proofing (motherboard-wise).

Should I go 64 bit (twin core) or stick with the top end of the 32 bit
processors?

Bangs per buck versus future-proofing?

Is it really worth going the Sli route (or equivalent), or is the single
card solution capable of producing good to excellent results?

Any opinions?

Thanks already!

No question that 64 is the way to go.  You can still run a 32 bit OS on
it, if you'd like to, and it's ready for the future.  The Intel Core2Duo
is absolutely fantastic, and not that expensive.

See above.  Get the C2D E6600.

SLI is a waste, and not needed if you get a high end video card.  I'm
running an Nvidia 7950GT (PCI-e) and it just rocks.  An even better one
would be the 8800GTX, if you can afford it.

That's my $0.02.

PCI-E mobo that supports p4 and core duo chips is a decent plan.

Depends on your budget, as said above you can get a mobo which supports HT
P4's and duo core chips, a 3.4ghz cpu is plenty at the moment, and by the
time you NEED to upgrade the high end chips out now will be drastically
reduced in price.

Never seen much point in Sli, as its power is surpassed at the next
generation of VGA cards anyway, 1 8800GTX costs around the same as 2x7900's
and is more powerful.

Opinions vary though :p
