Ello,

I was talking back in #AGHL today (just to be different) and mentioned
we should have a CS:S bash. Early stages, register your interest and
post if you know if anyone has a server for an evening. Here is the

They are all true, apart from the one involving a badger and a damp sponge.

Ya am interested for sure.  I don't know anyone with a server.

Looks ok, but am not a fan of the hugely biased maps, ie, assault, italy and
militia.... unless the teams are balanced well, people can easily get pissed
off playing these imo.

I'll play any map and be any side, but being slightly machoistic (i can
speel me), I dont mind being slaughtered every round if needs be ^_^

Well these maps don't often get as much attention on public servers and
when they do they're often played as I'm sure the designer of the map
intended. As much fun as it is rushing the roof it's as much or more
fun locking down the warehouse or even better still, getting in and
removing the threat. I guess that's why I'd like to see these included.

We'll see what the others say and draw our conclusions over an average,
ay?

Dont get me wrong, I dont think all maps should be balanced, but for a fun
night, I just assumed most people would prefer balanced maps.

Sounds fine, as said, I'll play anything :p

Assuming someone's got rcon (or Admin mod), then i guess the mapcycle
doesn't have to be set-in-stone.    Perhaps it'd be an idea to have a
short-ish game time (say, 20 mins) - that way noone will get too fed up
if a map comes around that they hate :)

Anyway, depending what date/time the bash is going to be, I'll probably
not be on a connection which doesn't lag me out every 30 seconds.

Sounds like fun. If it's in the evening US Eastern time, I'd be an
almost sure bet.

Looks like you're five hours behind GMT. In which case I'll try to
start it as late as possible for us europeans but early enough so we're
not playing too late into GMT morning and you 'orrible Americans can
make it too.

I'm thinking maybe 10pm - 2pm GMT, 5pm - 9pm EST

On a what night of the week? Friday as usual? (If so, I'll probably turn
up about 12:30, with my amazing *cough* skills being massively impaired

As I stated before the Phats have a CS:S server running (dedicated
server on home cable network 16Mb\1Mb connection) but Stri has been a
lil bitch about it and doesn't like the 200ms or so transatlantic
pings... even though I spent years on his side of the pond with a 400ms
ping.
But that's all water under the bridge... I'm not bitter at all...

What you on about you yak smelling drunken Canadian :)

I would, and I'm sure the various other nations representitive (hell
maybe even the nation of Texas) would be honoured to invade Canada for
a few hours (it's not worth staying for much longer than that, just
kidding!)

Since Jethro has decided to be the cavarly (nice horse by the way) all
we need do now is set a date. Preferably a little in advance to get the
chance to email some of the more absent aghl members.

In addition, see if you can set something like this up for the last
hour or so of the bash. It's a novel idea I've used a few times has
been adapted by a few to make "zombie horde" type senarios.

For example. 1 player takes on 20-40 bots which have only knives.
That's how I play it. But you may be able to set it so AGHL is players
and bots have knives. Of course, give them names like Sharon :)

Just an idea ;)

Ahhh yes we already have a config for that all setup. We usually do 25
bots but it depends on how many humans are on the server. I think server
max is 32. Not sure if that can be bumped higher.
Changing Bot names is actually a lot of work because you have to modify
the Bot stats file. We looked and gave up.

We can do 25 T bots or 25 CT bots. We just call out which side everyone
goes on and throw in the bots.

Last LAN we did that in cs_italy and built a wall of weapons, 2 layers
high, back to back in the alley.

Cool, ok, we'll see how the turnout is. If the turnout is bad then all
is not lost, we can try with the bots. I think it will be good fun even
without the bot names which by the way, aren't that important I just
thought they might be a good addition.

Server owner has 2 older boys schooled in the ways of AGHL bash rules
that we can add.
So far we can get at least 4 Phat's there round out the numbers.

Ok cool. You pick the date dude, I'm no good at this sort of thing.

It don't matter to me. Pick this Friday or we can do every Friday too.
If it's 5pm EST (10pm GMT) to whenever, the server is there and you got
the password.

I can gmail you the admin password too as I think I can trust you. What

Thanks for the offer but in light of my lack of server admin practice I
think it would be wise for me to leave it to an experienced hand.

I'll start a new thread to decide the mapcyle & settings. From that you
can setup the server config. If that's ok with you?

Sure no prob. I'll just send it to the real server admin and make him do
all the work... I mean *cough* delegate responsibilities
:-)

Just realised actually, I'm on a 10M .ac.uk connection here. Dunno what
the outwards connectivity is like but I'll grab Stri next time I see him
on MSN and see if we can test it. Ping to jolt.co.uk is 2ms, ping to
google.ca is 72ms. Goddamn Einstein!

Ok, we'll go Jethro's this time since he was so quick to offer. In the
mean time Civ I'll help you test that server of yours.

I don't use MSN anymore but my Steam ID is:

Might I direct you attention here incase the Server IP has changed.
As it's on a home network there is a (small) chance that the IP can
change. We of course found a way around that.
