That SPringfield .45 ain't nuthin to sneeze at man. But that DE XIX can
dislocate shoulder joints. I'd take your peashooter any day for personal
use. At least, that one can be USED :)

Yep.. Agree... .45 is a great gun but too big to carry.. Switched from my little
Llama .380 carry gun in an inside the belt kidney carry to my XD compact .40
S&W... Bet Neil didn't notice I was a dangerous citizen when he was here... His
mom would have had a heart attack... :)

My favorite carry gun of all times was a tefloned(?) Colt Combat
Commander. Fit nicely in the back pocket of my jeans. :)
`Course I couldn't do that with my long slide Hardballer.

Yeah I saw that when you put the link in. I'd rather have the Glock .45,
just an inch longer but even thinner and lighter. It's surprisingly
compact. Still uses 8 rd mag too.

So is it just for show, or do deagles actually have a use, somewhere? ISTM
that it only has half the clip capacity of most autos, it's hard to aim, and
it hurts the bearer when they fire it. OK, so it will probably take the
target apart with one shot if it's hit, but are the chances of such a hit
high enough to tolerate its shortcomings?
Cannon Fodder - 19 Aug 2006 17:41 GMT
It's not hard to aim, my first shot was dead center in the bullseye but all
subsequent shots were in a 10" circle due to my flinching... Most autoloaders
.45 and over only carry 8 shots, but it does wake you up once you've fired
it.... If I were out hunting for a trophy grizzly and my trusty .375 Weatherby
magnum jammed I'd like to have the DE as a back-up... Screw the pain... :)

Some years ago, a fella and his partner who build custom firearms in their
own machine shop for hobby and profit, decided to try to build a carbine for
a particular round. They are located in Harris County, Tx. The round they
wanted to fit a carbine around is the same round the US Military uses and it
is used in the M2 heavy machine gun. It's a .50 calibre round. Yeah, the
good old Colt-Browning .50 heavy machine gun. They built the carbine and
it works great. And it IS used by US forces all around. It's the Pauza
.50, built by Frank Pauza. There's an experiment what worked very well and
enjoys commercial success and official military use.
The .50 Desert Eagle XIX is big, hugely powerful recoil and LOUD. The DE
XIX recoils so hard I suspect because it has a locked barrel with rotating
interlocking bolt. When a round is chambered, you may as well be shooting a
bolt action pistol. That bolt is not rotated-unlocked until enough gas
pressure exists to operate that slide. The round is out of the barrel by
then. A 'normal' .45 semi auto's operation is a bit sloppier, nothing
locks. The round fires and the pressure pushes the casing against the bolt
and begins to move back, round passes gas orifice and pressure there pushes
the slide on back. The DE XIX is multi calibre, no matter which size round
you fire, it's gonna kick harder than the standard slide bolt pistol. As
far as I know, the DE XIX isn't used by any official militaries because it's
just TOO much. Hollywood warriors do use it in film. I think maybe they
made that pistol because they could.
All this info can be googled pretty quickly too.
