I recently upgraded from 1 to 2GB, and stuttering noticeably
decreases when HL2 was run with a heapsize of 512MB
('-heapsize 512000' on the command line).  The biggest
peak memory usage I've ever seen in HL2 was ~740MB,
after a 3-hour session.

The biggest stumbling block on this system is the SD RAM, it's much
slower than the newer DDR RAM. Going to the newer RAM makes a
noticeable difference. You'd need a new MB to use it though.

Hey, it's naughty Nick Le Lievre from uk.adverts.computer or something! I
used to read the posts about you - how's it going these days? IIRC, there
was something prohibiting you from owning a computer at one point - that's
obviously passed now. Fascinating stuff.
