Davo, when did you subscribe to the group?  OE can only download a
maximum of 1000 messages at a time.  Perhaps you're still catching up to
the current.  You can right-click the group name and select 'Catch Up',
this will mark all messages in the group as read, then tell OE to only
download New Messages.

It also might be that you are using the date field to sort by (and it is
sorted by oldest on top).  In that case, click the header block above
the date (it is marked Sent), and you will see the messages sort
themselves by oldest/newest.  They will reverse order every time you
click it.  If these suggestions don't work, then maybe you should go ask
about it in a MS OE group what might be wrong.

If a person is able to use OE to access Newsgroups, then Google Groups
is not a good recommendation.

Try suggesting at newsreader that is at least decent, such as Free
Agent.

You have just answered your own question. Time to get a real Usenet
client.

Andrew - that's a load of rubbish and you know it... ;o)

His problem is most likely that he's using his ISP's news server
(USWest.net) which doesn't support this group properly. This is where the
words "retention" and "completeness" start getting bandied about.

Davo - suggest you sign up with someone like http://teranews.com/ - it's
free. You're limited to 50mb download a day, but as long as you stick to
reading non-binary groups like this one you'll never have any problems.

It is the single best bit of advice I can offer someone regarding
Usenet, no smilie's, winks or anything else needed.

Well, in this case it's not good enough advice, is it now? It's highly
unlikely that OE is causing his problem, regardless of what you think of it.

It causes 99.9% of the Usenet client related problems I read, sorry to
the OP if this falls into the the other 0.1% category, but even if it
works flawlessly, it is still sound advice.

OE has never caused me, nor anyone I know, problems with Usenet for
non-binary related reading. The vast majority of problems that I've seen are
caused by having a crap news server. The lack of headers in this case would
strongly suggest this to me.

This constant OE bashing is as tiring as the old anti-top-posting whining
that has, thankfully, mostly died out these days.

Now here's some smilies for ya:

Hehe... actually, I hate 'em! I have a "mate" who uses them in an email just
after he's given you a good textual kicking. He must think it softens the
blow or something...

One just have to remember to add QuoteFix and it's fine
