SiN Episodes: Emergence, pretty short

Not any shorter than advertised, but I don't think I realized how fast 5
or so hours can go by while gaming.  There's definitely some replay
possibilities, I missed a lot of stuff, there's a stats function that's
fairly comprehensive and I'd like to improve my first go through
results.  Embarrassing.  The game is pretty hard, I've often found
myself at difficult junctures, with a bunch of enemies to face and
around 15 health.  That's either hard or annoying, I'm so used to games
giving you an opportunity to completely gear up before going into a big
firefight.
The first episode wasn't quite a blockbuster, but I was left wanting
more.  The original SiN was so completely imbued with the characters of
John Blade and his annoying sidekick JC, that I missed hearing their
voices all the time in Emergence.  John Blade has become much more
Gordon Freeman and much less Duke Nukem.  Unfortunately SE:E is running
off an old (Feb 2005) Source build, so there are stuttering problems
when loading and no HDR.  Hopefully that will be rectified.

It was still well worth the $17.95, and I'll be buying the next
episode.  I guess now it's time to hit my credit card for another $17.95
for HL Episode 1.

I played it for a few hours last night - I was surprised by how much
like a HL2 mod it felt like.  I know it was made using the same
engine, but even the menus are the same.

Not sure if I'll be getting part 2 - I'll play to the end of 1, and a
couple of replays, see how I feel later.

Bunnies aren't just cute like everybody supposes !
They got them hoppy legs and twitchy little noses !
And what's with all the carrots ?
What do they need such good eyesight for anyway ?
Bunnies !  Bunnies !  It must be BUNNIES !

The look and feel of the game is ok, but the gameplay itself gets very
repetitive after a while. Like you, I find myself regularly running
out of health just before there is a room full of enemies to clear,
with no reward for doing so...bah!

The adaptive difficulty settings can be a little too much.  I'm playing
through the game again with everything set pretty high.  I've just got
through the part where you bust into the Sintek building and there are
chaingun guards in front of me and above me and I've got no health and
limited ammo.  This just after going through a previous gauntlet to get
to the car and then get to the door controls.  What's your instantaneous
challenge rating at in stats?  Mines up at 82 which makes the game
nearly impossible without countless deaths.

Rubbish game. I gave up and hit god mode...there's no way I would have
made it to the end of the game..it's just an onslaught of the same
thing, over and over again...pah!

Have you tried this since the new patch Steve?  I've found it much better -
still a challenge but much different to how it was when released.

Yeah, the update made a huge difference.  The waves of nearly unkillable
never ending chaingun guys aren't coming at me any more.
