Ben Cottrell - 15 Jan 2006 00:49 GMT Anyone checked out the screengrab of the new militia? I think this could be their best conversion yet.. real nice job with the foliage.. and a great 'outdoors' feel to it - the map almost looks like something out of WoW :) Hope they haven't changed the play style too much! although it would be nice if it were harder for the Ts to rush out their front door..

Militia was a favourite of mine. I think it was pretty popular with AGHL too. Should be good for a bash.

After I posted this I searched for some Militia servers, Found one running a weird zombie mod. Nice looking map though. Had a rather strange error. The human players were all CTs and the Ts were all Zombies. However, instead of seeing Zombie models all I saw were these huge red "ERROR" letters running around the map. Pretty funny actually. I really can't wait for militia.. according to Valve it won't be long now. I'd say it was my favourite of all the old CS_ maps (as in - maps which contained hostages rather than bombsites).. aside from being the 2nd-oldest map in the game, I've played many great games on the map under both allegiances, and I always felt CS:S was somehow incomplete without it :)

> Suprise, suprise Stri... I'm a hard core athiest... Good to hear. I work with a Christian and a Muslim (that I speak to often) and it's kind of difficult to listen to their views and not speak my own when they so fundamentally undermine all religion. I think we've struck a comfortable balance. I'm lucky they're nice people and that they're not into Bible/Koran bashing.
> I think > life was seeded here by aliens milliniums ago.... As my sig > occasionally reads: > > "Remember, when the aliens return to reap their harvest > they'll eat the fat ones first" Really? It's important to respect everyone's view as long as they're not intrinsically wrong but I must say I find that a little far fetched. Mind I won't deny that is possible. If you are then that would be the Scientology viewpoint? I suspect you've been reading Larry Niven's Protector books again :)
I don't subscribe to that personally. I'm of the Darwin and Dawkins point of view. Some freak of science caused life in it's most simple form to be created and from there it then diversified and spread.
> However I am a flag waving, jingoistic, proud American who > gets teary eyed at "The Star Spangled Banner" and "Battle > Hymn of the Republic"... I suspect that your choice of the word "jingoistic" isn't accidental. One of the things that I've really objected to of late is America's strong-arm tactics with other countries. Sure we did it too but it was a different era and I'd have hoped this is more of a enlightened time. But I'm just being a romantic and don't honestly think that America will stop until some other country equally as strong steps in.
> I see some folks over there are > asking for a flag waving "Britishness day" like our 4th of > July.... Go for it... Ya'll have a lot to be proud of.... I'm all for being proud of what you are and where you come from but I'm not sure we need a day for it. I like to think that we have different days for different purposes.
I'm proud of what we've achieved in the past although not always about how we went about achieving it. At the present time in my life I'm a little sick of my country and the pathetic wretches that I'm forced to live alongside. I must confess I'm at a stage now where I'm looking for work in other countries such is my contempt and utter lack of hope with the poor way in which this country is heading.
Cheers for the opening to rant.

Like I said previously though. Rather than trying to change the tide with a bucket I feel it may be better to go and live in a country where the direction seems more sensible and people actually treat each other with some semblance of respect.

Some ancient civilisation worshiped giants, which they portrayed as having arrived from the heavens (ie, space), extrapolated from this was the mixing of neandothals with said space giant dudes, to create cromagnon man.
Every other life form on the planet has evolved in harmony with it's surroundings, with man being the only exception, we have broken evolution with the ability to modify genetics, and for sure, don't like in harmony with the world.
The only explantion - no matter how crazy - that makes sense, is that we are not originally from here.
The ancient peoples were told these aliens came from planet X (10th planet), which is now dead, but they may of moved on and may be back to check on us at some point in the future.
Not sure how much of this I believe, and cannot provide the full facts of the civilisation, the name of the aliens, or any dates, as it is something I read / saw a long time ago, and I'm a lazy f.cker who can't be arsed to look things up.
There is some evidence that giants lived amongst us at some point in the past, huge building's froma ancient times built with stones bigger than we can lift with any crane or lifting tool we have today. How these were built remains a mystery to science.

Grew up and I'm much more cynical nowadays... Neil Jones - 23 Jan 2006 18:32 GMT > Yep, have read all of Erich Von Daniken's books... Thought > provoking they are..... Carl Sagan did a Horizon programme several years ago, where they comprehensively tore apart Von Daniken's 'theories'. They were able to finish up with a statement as conclusive as "Von Daniken is a fraud and a cheat. He's comprehensively distorted theories, produced misleading photos and fabricated evidence."
In the course of the programme they found people who actually make for tourists the blackened stones that VD claimed had carvings which proved that heart transplants were done in prehistoric times. They found experts in every field who explained clearly exactly what each item that VD claimed were images of spaceships, spacesuits, etc, really were.
On the Nazca plains in Peru they found an archaeologist who's spent decades measuring and drawing the 'mysterious' lines, and could tell you exactly what they were there for, and how they were made. One of the photos in 'chariots' showed some lines that VD claimed were parking bays for spaceships.. Sagan found the exact spot, and walked along the line - which was about four feet long!
Wish the programme was available on dvd - it should be compulsory viewing every time VD's name comes up.
(notes: Horizon is the BBC's most respected science documentary series - if it comes out with a definitive conclusion, then that's pretty much game over; Carl Sagan was a writer, astronomer, scientist, broadcaster and one of America's greats - if he comes out with a definitive conclusion... well, you get the picture :)

Jack Harney - 23 Jan 2006 02:03 GMT The Aku Aku of Easter Island has always confounded me... Why were they built, The strange faces and bodies, Some weighing 80 tons with 12 ton head pieces places 60 feet above the ground, the limited population of the island, the stone they were carved from was the hardest substance on the island, they were quarried in a horizontal position which meant they had to be freed from beneath and then transported over miles of rough terrain... You, your family much like everyone in your locale have had an awful lot to deal with and undoubtedly feel very let down about how it's been handled. America is an absurdly powerful country and should have dealt with the situation more better than it did/is.
The government had excuses when the first storm hit but they didn't respond quick enough. After the second, still they dallied.

Jack Harney - 22 Jan 2006 02:59 GMT Ah, it's not ignorance. In order for the Federal government to step in the states Governor must request it... President Bush called her three times begging her to do so, she refused saying "She had to think about it"... This is a Republic and each state is sovereign.....

Well with all due respect, assuming that's all true then that's when of the many times politics has failed the people.
After all, who cares. With a country like America with it's resources then surely help is help and it should have been sent regardless.
America has always voiced the pride in it's unity after it was so difficulty obtained, yet it still allows sovereignty get in the way of helping an awful lot of people.
It's not my country and I won't meddle. I've said what I think and hope I've not stepped on any toes.

Jack Harney - 22 Jan 2006 02:35 GMT Yeh, but they do it on a matching funds situation which the state of Louisiana refused to provide..... In other words the Feds will spend XXX number of dollars for the improvements if you will put up a like amount of funds....
Example.... Governor Blanco called Houston mayor Bill White (A Democrat) and asked him where he found 200,000 cots, water and MRE's on such short notice... He told her he spent the money the Home Land Security Ageny gave him rather than putting it in the general slop fund like she did... Really pissed her off...

Just tried some CS:S public servers on the weekend. Ended up as CT and had to camp the garden market in cs_italy from the rushing T's. So.. so sad.

I've had alot of games like that :( I find that FBs really are the only weapon in the game which give you half a chance dealing with a bunch of rushers :-)
