I don't play HL2 anymore, and I'd like to put together enough cash to
purchase Battlefield 2.  Would anyone be interested in buying my copy
of HL2?  It was a retail sale from Software etc.  Comes in the orignal
box.  I will transfer my Steam account to you if I need to, I'm not
sure how to really resell a game like HL2 with all the anti-piracy crap
they built into it.

Email if interested.  Thanks.

I suppose the way to do it would be to tell the purchaser your user
name/password combo and then they immediately change the password.
They can then either use the HL2 discs to install, or get the game online
via Steam.
Is this allowed in the license T&Cs?

Only if you want to screw the buyer.

No.

sorry, don't get it:    if the buyer is the only person with the password-
only the buyer can use the game? So how do they get "screwed"?

I'm not sure either, Andrew, did you read his post correctly?

Yes, Of course you are allowed to resell the game, although I can
vaguely recall that the Steam agreement does not permit transferral of
ownership of Steam accounts.  This used to be the case prior to the
release of HL2, but since this conflicts with the ability to resell the
game, it may have changed.

There is a procedure for "resetting" the account

p?p_faqid=70

Presumably you would have the buyer perform this procedure after the
transaction, after which he could register the retail cd as his own.  The
goal of course is to make it inconvenient, thus discouraging such
transferals.  The simple solution is to give the buyer your account and let
him change the password and contact info.  You still have to transfer the
physical materials for it to be legal.
