Has anyone downloaded new crosshairs and got them working in HL2?  If so,
how?

I downloaded some from bullseyecrosshairs, unzipped them, then installed
them in the resource directory.  The original crosshairs did not go away.

I remember installing new crosshairs in HL1, and it made the game a whole
lot more fun.

I hate those little white dots, especially when you are outside and the
background is bright.

RJDriver will respond to you soon... I got some for HL2 that were
"better" but not GREAT like for HL.... A temporary solution is to
place a clear piece of tape on your monitor where your cross hairs are
and make an ink X or whatever... The crosshairs are always centered...

Your response made me laugh, because I am presently using a miniature piece
of a post-it note stuck on my monitor.  Glad to know that someone else has
resorted to this method.

Fred,

I hate those little white dots also.  Valve has not made this easy.
First they used a font file for the crosshair, then they put no less than 4
resource folders in the game directory.  Which crosshair did you download?
And were you setting it up for single player or multiplayer?

Here's the paths to the resource folders again.

SINGLE PLAYER:
Steam/SteamApps/youracountname/halflife2/hl2/resource

MULTI PLAYER:
Steam/SteamApps/youraccountname/halflife2deathamatch/hl2mp/resource

e-mail me if you need more help.

Single player.

downloaded moosemanhl2spcrosshair and
rjc1hl2spcrosshair

I ended up putting each one in every resource folder I could find.  Tried
mooseman first, then tried rlj1.

Try this.

1. Navigate to this resource folder:
Steam/SteamApps/youracountname/halflife2/hl2/resource

2.  Delete the halflife2.ttf file that's there.

3.  Extract the halflife2.ttf file from the RJC or Mooseman zip to your
desktop.

4.  Right click on this halflife2.ttf file and look at the properties.  Make
sure Read Only is checked at the bottom.

5.  Copy and paste the halflife2.ttf file into the resource folder above.

It should work fine.  I checked the properties of the files in the zips
again to make sure they were set as " read only", and they are.  But perhaps
they are somehow getting reset on your system.  As long as they are in the
right folder, that's the only other thing I can think of that would keep
them from working.

Unless you are playing a mod.  If you are playing a hl2 mod, each one has
its *own* resource folder, ie: "lostcoast/hl2/resource".  You'll have to
copy the crosshair file into each mod to make it work there.
