I was going to say Lite-on which I thought always had a good rep. But I
guess not with you. :-\
Around here, LG are the cheapest with Lite-On second. Top names are
Plextor (very pricey) Pioneer, NEC.

The price on them have dropped so much since I bought mine. Nowadays I
see LG 16x Dual layer for Can$59.
I bought my 12x non-Dual layer Plextor for Can$240.. ouch

Thanks guys.  I was actually referring to tv dvd recorders.  I did some
research and decided on one with a built in hard disk.  I even found one
with no dvd drive at all just a hard drive and built in digital tv decoder.
Considering how flaky the recording straight to disk i think to HD then dvd
would be better.  Churning out a second 4 hour copy won't take 4 hours then.
Went for a rental in the end.  £600 retail.  panasonic.  even takes sd
cards.  200gb, firewire, sd, phono, scart, vhs, dvd and dvd ram.

the one thing i can't do is have chapters inside of a film.  Well not
recorded to dvd disk anyway.  The liteon had an automatic chapter editor
with 5, 10, 15 or 30 minute lengths.  So if you stop the video you don't
have to fastforward your way all the way through it.
