My buddy is 60 years old and I am 58. Many years ago we got hooked on
Half-Life. I think it's the best game ever. We had 4 maps we loved. But then
something happened and we haven't played for a long time.
Now I've got DSL while he's still got dial-up. I think one of us has a
copied version of half-life.
So...how do we get back into half-life? Do we need something called "steam"
or stream" and what is that?
How much will that cost us? Do we need a new version of half-life? I think
someone said they have a half-life2 now.
Can someone give me some advice because my buddy and I are now retired and
we want to get back into half-life. Can we still get maps? Can we still play
each other>

You need genuine CDkeys at least to get started

If you want to play online without much hazzle then yes you need to download
and install Steam

If you don't have the original keys you need a new version each
Playing HL2 you should take a closer look at your hardware and see if the
specs applies to a gaming rig of today (or last year)
State of the art machinery will show you HL2 in all it's glory while older
HW can play the game
Compare with a 20 year old gent with us oldies - you get the general idea :)
In some HL2 packages you can get Valves backcatalog - like HL, OP4, BS etc

You can play online using Steam and eg participate in closed HL/HL2 DM
bashes and CS bashes which is arranged from time to time
You can also take the steamless path and dial in on this website:

Also there are several gaming clans that are for mature players. A
friendly place where age isn't an issue. When playing if asked my age I
often feel awkward as I'm often older than their dads...
PS TSS (The Senile Soldiers) would make you welcome but were not playing
Half Life these days. Having made Battlefield:2 our home these days.

Dear Stephen,
You did not mention if you like single or multiplayer.
If you like singleplayer, check out www.levelpedia.org. Phillip has a
fantastic collection of mods and maps.
