Andrew - 29 Oct 2005 10:31 GMT >i know, i asked about cdkeys, i cant download steam with valid >cdkey, right ? :) Wrong, which is why I wrote that you can download it for free.

K'stuff is not being clear - If he *just buyin hl for steam* as he says the Andrew guidence is right - you can download steam for free from http://www.steampowered.com/
However, you will not get a key to play HL or anything. It will convert any valve games you have anready installed, pulling them under steams control. Or incorproate any new ones you want to install from a seperate CD. You can also buy and download games via steam.
Hope that clarifies.
Cheers

Paul Fedorenko - 29 Oct 2005 20:27 GMT > You get Codename:Gordon! Which is a perfectly fine game in it's own right, thank you very much. <grin>
k`stuff - 29 Oct 2005 12:35 GMT > K'stuff is not being clear - If he *just buyin hl for steam* when i said "for steam" i meaned "to play on steam (online)", so in that case i need a valid cdkey, which i get only with game that i buy, i think im right now ;-)

If you want to play HL or HL2 based games you need to buy the appropriate game to get a CD key that you can use with Steam, or buy the games via Steam (which may be more expensive).

I may be wrong, but I think he means that he has got a copy of the game and a CD Key that doesn't work with Steam (I won't ask *why* it doesn't work with steam.. ;) )
in which case - the answer is that Blue Shift keys don't work in Steam, however, you can buy HL for £10 on budget at Play.com, this will let you access HL1, OpFor, BS, DoD, CS, TFC, DMC, Ricochet.. all on Steam. a bargain really :-)

Peter [AGHL] - 30 Oct 2005 19:24 GMT > Blue Shift keys DO work in Steam, OP keys do not... Hehe a bit confusing isn't it :)
Any game bought in the original standalone package gives access to Steam
HL gives access (obviously)
CS bought in a package which includes HL does not give access, but CS gives access if bought as a standalone package
As mentioned OP comes with different packages but comes as a standalone package which gives access
BS gives access if not bought with eg Generations etc
DoD gives access if bought as a standalone package
GC (Gunmans Chronicle) gives access (I am plying HL on such a key)
CS:CZ does NOT give access and no other games gives access to CS:CZ
At least this is what I have found works :)
