Hi Guys,

Although the hype surrounding the launch of HL2 was a tad exaggerated I have
not been disappointed, except perhaps for the Steam malarky which seems to
be an attempt to make the totalitarian experience complete. But apart from
enjoying the new habit of phoning up the BBC to assure them I have a
license, before watching, the HL2 experience has been pretty good and
replete with enough squeals of amazement to get the neighbours talking.

There is definitely a measurable leap between HL1 and 2, possibly similar in
scale as between Duke Nukem and HL1.

The question I need answering, is what will it require in gfx card and PC
development to make a similar leap to the next level?

How long: Five years? Ten?

Nah, quite a few of the add-ons for Half-life came shortly after. I
think we'll see a few of them and I expect Half-life3 to just a similar
or identical engine.

I think he means how long before we see something that is as much of a
graphical improvement over HL2 as HL2 was over HL1, to which the answer
is only a couple of years or so. Take a look at:

The Witcher
Elder Scrolls:Oblivion
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

All of these games are *supposed* to be out within a couple of years,
and when running on the latest GFX cards, will look much better than
HL2. HL3 will probably be another 3 or 4 years though, and look even
better than anything we can currently imagine :)

Yes, this was what I was after.
