Cannon Fodder - 20 Sep 2005 01:57 GMT Damn, just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water.... This bitch is projected for Galveston-Houston as a Cat 4 or possible Cat 5... Think of all these poor devils who just escaped from Katrina here in Houston... At least we're 50 feet above sea level but Galveston isn't..... Cat 1 or 2 I'll stay, above that I'm outta here... Thad, where are you??? --
My luck is so bad that if I bought a cemetery, people would stop dying. -
McGrandpa - 20 Sep 2005 04:26 GMT I think I'll drive up to Livingston for the weekend.... McG.

Dammit, good luck to you all

Cannon Fodder - 20 Sep 2005 22:33 GMT It just hugged the east coast and took about 4 days to drop loads of rain on them... Last I heard it had gone out to sea, strengthened to a Cat 5 and was bearing down on Denmark... Better go board up Tivoli Gardens Peter....

McGrandpa - 21 Sep 2005 02:20 GMT If it's gonna run right over galveston like they're saying now, you ain't staying put are ya? I just made plans to head up to Livingston to my sis's place, if it's any worse than the 3 Alicia was. Last 4 I remember was Carla. she made a pretty big mess. Mostly wind damage and water rose to our top step (frame on blocks). Water stayed up for 2 days. That was a 4 running up the ship channel. I don't think these old frame houses will take that any more. Brings out all the damned snakes too. McG.

Lady Fodder is heading up to Tyler for her sis's hubbies 50th birthday Thursday.... I'm keeping the kitties here to keep me safe.... I slept though Alicia in 1983 but was without electricity for two weeks in August afterwards.... Where I live it shouldn't be out for more than a couple of days & it's not a flood zone... Houston Light & Power are pretty marvelous plus all the help from all over the US.... Always keep plenty of food and batteries and I have the gas grill... Will have steaks out of the freezer for a couple of days.... Kinda lookin' forward to it.. Also have the old 6 shot Browning A-5 for trouble..... Have 00 buck and my Lymns choke is set for wide.... Ah well, better here than New Orleans....

McGrandpa - 21 Sep 2005 08:25 GMT If it ain't a real bad one, I'll just take the laptop and guitars :) They'll likely shut the plant down for Friday, so I'll have a nice 3 day weekend to visit kin. Been meaning to visit for a while anyway. McG.

Anyway, have a good holiday. I wouldn't want to be sticking around...

In the times of Yore, approximately 3 moons after Tue, 20 Sep 2005 00:57:38 GMT, there was a signal from the heavens from where the angel Cannon Fodder <gonfishn39@mindspring.com> emblazoned these words across the heavens:
>Damn, just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water.... >This bitch is projected for Galveston-Houston as a Cat 4 or possible >Cat 5... I live in a flood plain area of Saugus, MA and can't get the federal insurance because I had 8 feet of water in my house about 8 years ago and have had some water seepage every year. BTW just got back from 1 and 1/2 weeks with the Red Cross in Mobile-everyone was great and hope that we did some good. If this storm hits Mobile, probably will go back. Prayers with all of the good folks on the Gulf Shores. Paul
Cannon Fodder - 21 Sep 2005 01:40 GMT Hum... Wonder what happened to Marlin the kid from Alvin, Tx... Heaviest 24 hour rain fall ever measured in the US was in 1979 in Alvin... 43 inches.... We had 48 inches in 48 hours while Hi-Vis was here in our fair, soon to be soggy, city....
Yeah we get insurance and it's cheap... I live in an apartment and have $25,000 insurance for any loss including wind or floods... Includes theft etc... $23.00 a month.... That's replacement value not fair market value.... That's why I have little sympathy with the whiners crying "We lost everything"....

The folks at the national hurricane center say that we are in the thick of a bad weather part of a weather cycle. There will likely be even more storms for the next few years before it calms down again. We *will* be careful; both of us have seen some rough storms. This ol town ain't at all like New Orleans. McG.
McGrandpa - 21 Sep 2005 08:21 GMT Got 'renters insurance', 20K on contents. Pay by the year. Still, if i gotta leave, the better computer stuff and guitars leaves with me! I'll still have room for a few clothes ;) McG.

Cannon Fodder - 21 Sep 2005 22:09 GMT Oooops, now a Cat 5 with 170 mph sustained winds and 48 hours to go.... This one could hit 200 mph before landfall friday night or saturday morning... Wherever it hit is going to be in big trouble...

She's due to hit land Friday, and tomorrow morning me and the bosses will secure the plant. I'll kill the power and then we all are heading outta town. I'll have my stuff ready to load up the jeep, then do that in the morning, go to work, then right up to sons place when I leave there. McG.

Cannon Fodder - 21 Sep 2005 23:52 GMT He couldn't do it but Lady Fodder sure as hell did... She's out now picking up my ex-wife, they're best friends, and we'll all head out for San Antonio in the morning to her girl friends house... Funny my ex's name is Rita and she's catching hell for it... Heading west, Carrie, Rita, Duffy, Snuffy, Simon and Jack.... It'll look like the Beverly Hillbillies....

Projected strike point is around the Tx/La state line, the Sabine river. It's still HUGE and will still cover us with 100mph winds and 10' storm surge. By now i'd think CF and co. have gotten out West some ways :) mcg.
Cannon Fodder - 25 Sep 2005 23:20 GMT Back from The Alamo City... What a trip.... Left Houston at 8AM thursday, arrived in San Antonio at 11:30pm... All for a 210 mile trip that usually takes 2 1/2 hours... Took most folks 20 to 24 hours on I-10 East even though they opened both the East and West bounds lane heading West... We traveled 6 miles in 2 hours so we pulled off and hit the back roads, some of them dirt, to take a scenic route... Took us 3 hours today to get home...
Houston dodged the big bullet again when at the very last it veered about 100 miles to the East.... Think God must be pissed at Louisiana... --
